Title: New from California
Post by: Someguyincali on March 08, 2015, 02:12:00 PM
Hello Everyone, my name is David.  I just recently got started in Trad Archery.  I made a selfbow from Red Oak and bought my 10 year old daughter a youth compound bow.  We have been shooting for a couple weeks now and went to our first 3D tournament yesterday.  I was referred to this site by a fellow archer at the tournament.

Here is a video from one of the targets yesterday.

I am now addicted to making bows and plan on making many more and experimenting with techniques.

Archery is the first thing I have found that keeps her interest.  And as you can see from her grouping on the blue arrows, she is a natural.

No I just mean getting notification of new comments on posts.  If I don't go to every post I have commented on or made and look, I have no idea if anyone else has posted.

Welcome I also was at the Yahi Spring Fling. Some great shoots coming up in the area in the next few weeks. Look up Horseshoe Bend Field Archers and Orestimba Field archers websites and you can find the flyers and dates. Also April 17-19 there is a Traditional IBO at Qrestimba Field Archers. Maybe we can met each other at a shoot sometime.

Thought I'd share some of my woodwork with ya.  I am a huge DIY'fer.  I hate paying money for things I can do myself.

The handle of my first longbow...

A youth longbow I made. Also the strings are made from Polyester Masons line, 6 strands in a Flemish twist:

Fletchings on a dowel arrow. Made from road construction safety flag.

Some broadtip arrowheads I welded and forged.
