Title: Surprise selfbow gift!
Post by: snag on March 23, 2015, 10:44:00 AM
I had gifted some staves to a gifted selfbow builder. Carson, Echo Archery, has inspired and taught others how to enjoy the thrill of taking a piece of a tree and making a bow that you can shoot. Of course Carson has taken this to the highest level as some of you have seen. Well the other day he handed me a bow sock with a bow it it. I had thought it was one of his latest creations and, as he knows, I always look forward to holding and inspecting the lines and curves of a fine selfbow. I stripped off the sock to see a fine yew bow. I looked at the horn nocks, the even and gradual slope of the fades, the shape and feel of the handle...and then to my surprise the burned in words...."Custom for David Lawson"...What?! I was shocked. I took this bow into the foothills yesterday and spent time with a good friend stump shooting. This bow settles into my hand perfectly and it launches an arrow with accuracy and authority. Thank you Carson. This has brought me much joy. Each time I bring it into the woods I will think of where this yew came from and who built it.   (http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u31/snag23/Selfbows/IMG_6808_zpsshhdw9x0.jpg)

(I think I know someone who can build some arrows for this bow...    ;)  )

"Good things happen to good people" or "what goes around comes around".  There are many sayings like that are deserving when  things like this happen.  Both deserve a high five.

Now if you are looking for arrows, Walmart has there carbons on sale!!!!! LOL

I've always preferred laminated bows to selfbows because I like to see the different and contrasting woods, but I keep coming back to this and thinking "Dang that is beautiful.  I wish I had a bow that pretty."
