Right now I have a 3 piece blackwidow MA and a deflex express 1 pc recurve both are around 50# and 58". I'm kinds looking for a 1 or 2 piece longbow and suggestion on brands, type and length. I like 50#. Thanks in advance.

what's your budget and do you want a modern style or old school type of bow?
-
I like modern 1200
-
I want a to do some custom woods

I am a big fan of Howard Hill Archery and Northern Mist. I own them. Also, I have shot longbows from JD Berry, even though I have not owned them. They are nice as well. I like 68" bows for the smoothness of draw, but for efficiency, a shorter bow may actually be better. A lot of guys can give you more technical info than me as well as point you toward some additional excellent bowyers. Good luck on your quest. It will be a fun trip for you.

I have a 50# @28 Mohawk Sparrowhawk for sale that will be posting in here if it does not sell on the big site...it is also listed in PBS Classifieds.
Mohawk 50@28, 66"...
Reflex/Deflex...it is actually the Sparrowhawk on the Mohawk website near bottom of page. 5 bamboo laminates...cocobola riser and limb tips...awesome bow. I bought it while waiting on my Primal Styk...it was the prototype shot and tested by Rob D...here on TradGang. Sweet bow.

Toelke Whip HS or Striker makes a nice classic r/d 1 piece for a really fair price, but the custom line looks to be 3 piece r/d only. You could check him out and see what he could make you in a 1 piece. I just bought a 3 piece Striker fastback cocabola/bocate. Quiet, accurate, compact and pretty quick

Big Jim Buffalo!!

I am a fan of the Holm Made longbows by Chad Holm. His bows perform with the best of them!!!!!
-
The Sarrels Blueridge is one awesome longbow!

There are a number of nice longbows in that weight range that show up on the classified site here too. Lots of tempting classifieds.
-
Can't go wrong with Big Jims, they shoot fantastic and they are beautiful too.

Black Widow?
-
The only way to know the right bow for you is to shoot as many as possible. Then make your decision. Most bowyers have test drive programs Or hit a big event like ETAR or Kalamazoo my .o2
-
Go to a TBOT shoot in Texas and shoot as many as possible. Bob Sarrels makes a great bow and he is just outside of Austin.
Where are you located in Texas?
-
how long do you want to wait for the bow to be made or do you want it ASAP?
everyones going to have opnions on the best bow but these are the basic questions you must answer first to determine if you want an instock custom bow or wait up to a year for something with your own wood choices?
-
I shot a lot of bows at kalamazoo this year and my goal is the same as yours...2 piece I want r/d...I shot the 3rivers tomamhawk the black widow a trinity a java man a bear and some others I dont remember. My advice your gonna have to try um all on. Some I thought I would like just didnt fit and others surprised me. If you want a bow quickly black widow and sky/belcher longhorn are awesome...otherwise a full on custom will take longer. Good luck...oh yeah the javaman bows were absolutly awesome too!
-
I love my Black Widow longbow, it's been my favorite for several years. If I were considering a different brand, I'd look into a Toelke Lynx 3-piece, a Cari-bow, or a Java-Man.

If you would like something built to fit you like a glove you may consider one of these... I do have a 45# Flatliner long bow in the sponsor classified ads that shoots like a 50# bow.

I'm a recurve guy but have 2 longbows. One is a slight reflex thick limb core that's heavily trapped. The other is a 3 piece much like the widow platform and is the best shooting bow I've shot to date. It has a more aggressive reflex limb design and has 3 carbon lams.
So, there are many ways to design and build a longbow. Find one that appeals and hopefully you'll be able to shoot before you buy.

If you're not in a hurry wait until the Chester shoot in May and there will be several vendors selling bows. There will also be several hundred shooters there and most will let you check out their bows. Chester is a great time and a great shoot, unfortunately it looks like I won't make it this year.
If you're in the Houston area you are welcome to come by and shoot some of my longbows. All of my bows are in the 50 pound range. We usually meet at my house weekly for some shooting and fellowship. Between my friends and I you'll be able to shoot a wide variety of longbows.

Recurve Amigo,
Welcome to the search! A lot of us have bought and owned a lot of bows. Buy a used longbow off from this site or stickbow.com, Archery talk, or another site. You will get a lot more bow for your money, and you will probably buy and sell a number of bows to find exactly what you like.
Also, pay attention to grip. If you are shooting Black Widow, you might prefer a higher grip. Most of the American Semi-longbows have straight grips. That might not be a good fit for you, at least not right now.
Try to go to a local shoot with vendors. Look for traditional archery shops. Shoot as many bows as you can without buying them.
Good luck, and have fun.

Do yourself a favor and get ahold of Buddy Gould Poison Dart bows. He makes a beautiful one piece longbow. He sells through rmsgear.com good prices and good shooting. He had one in the shop the other day that was made with aromatic cedar veneers over boo that was incredible looking. He bookended the veneers so each limb was like a mirror reflection of each other. He's as nice of guy as you would ever want to meet too!

I have a A&H archery ACS 64in. 56@28in.
3 pc longbow for sale only shot a handful of times.

I actually went to bass pro and liked the Martin savannah, it's a nice bow
-
If you liked the Savannah, did you buy it? If Bass Pro is a convenient source for you. You may want to compare to the Bear Patriot. They both will get the job done, but they each have their own feel and balance. Just to have a choice difference, not saying one is better than the other.
