I'm on Greg's list and while I have time before my name comes up I'd like to see some pics so I can narrow down my wood choices. I've searched here and Google but have only found a handful of pics, so if you've got'em post them. Thanks.
-
he is making me one now. should get it by the end of the month. he is making me one out of gray stained american elm. nothing fancy, just a powerful stealthy bow
-
I had a Monarch imperial with beautiful gray stained American elm limb veneers, wish I had it back
-
go to Gregg's facebook page. It has a good selection. PM me your email and I'll send you a few of mine.
-
Recently sold mine that had Myrtle veneers and all phenolic riser.

Wow! Some beauties for sure. Keep 'em coming :bigsmyl:
-
Those are beauties, the Elkheart would be one of my top picks for a new build. Never saw cracked Maple really neat stuff!
-
Not an Elkheart but an Assyrian. Cocobolo riser with a black phenolic I beam and stained bamboo limbs. The MoBow.

In another year, I'll show you a picture of my LH 60" 2 piece Elkheart, with phenolic and Black & White Ebony, with B&W Ebony limb veneers. :D
Gregg already has the B&W Ebony, direct from Big Jim. :bigsmyl:

Use the search feature on Pow Wow for 'st. Jude's java man elkheart' and you can read my review again and see all the pics of mine. My baby, my #1 bow so far.
-
Great looking bows guys! This 54" Elkheart arrived at my door today, and I spent a fair amount of time with it. I'm impressed! A double carbon and bamboo core is moving my arrows at 10.5 g.p.p. very fast. It's also a quiet bow. I moved my cat whiskers around a little and found them best out about 6" from the tips on Gregg's string. Curly ambrosia maple veneers are really unique; never seen anything like them. I feel like this bow is very much standing on its own, independent of my Gregg-made Shrews. I'm not prepared to say one or the other is better, as I've only spent one afternoon shooting the bow, but it certainly has unique mannerisms that differ from what Mr. Coffey did with the Super Shrew, or Classic Hunter. I'm really liking it! Applause for :coffee:

That's nice ;)
-
I originally posted pics of a Helms Deep, but will post pics of my Elk Heart later.
-
Gregg builds an awesome bow. Seen a couple of them in person and the workmanship is absolutely top notch.
-
I've always admired his bows. I tend to like a more "classic" reflex/deflex longbow, but those are beautiful!
-
Sweet bows!!! Keep 'um coming!!!
-
Thanks guys, seeing all these beauties sure doesn't make choosing woods an easy task.
Chuck, I've read and re-read your post on the St. Jude bow and you are partially to blame for my wanting one so badly
:biglaugh:

Cocobolo and curly Koa with buff horn tips.

I love my Elkheart! The coco is still pretty fresh in these pics from last spring. It has richened up a bit since then.
-
Those are some Sexy Looking Bows!
-
Got this bow a couple months ago from Gregg. 56" 53@28. Limbs are bocote, the riser is phenolic and cocobolo with buffalo horn overlays. This is one of the best looking bows I have seen and it shoots as good as it looks. Gregg makes a fine bow. I'm just like you, in anticipation of getting a new bow, I like to look at as many bows as I can to try and decide on wood options. It doesn't make the wait any easier though! My next one will have to have snake skins I believe.

Those are some awesome bocote lams you've got there!!
-
Holy crap KS' that one is so nice almost makes me jealous!! Just wow. Im glad mine is just as fancy.
1/4 you will love the bow I have no doubt. It will make it hard to choose between it and the Phoenix when you feel like shooting I guarantee it.
-
As mentioned above, lots of pics on my Facebook page.
Website is all new too if anyone has not looked lately.
Thanks for all the nice comments,
Gregg :coffee:
-
Gregg that's a killing Bocote!
-
Gregg sure does build some beautiful bows !!! :notworthy:
Bill
-
I'm definitely liking the I- beam riser !!!!
-
Somebody delete this thread, it's about to cost me money!
More than that, I saw an inferno firsthand this weekend and Mr. Javaman is one fine bowyer!
-
As I'm not the original owner of my Elkheart, I mistook the core of my bow for carbon. Gregg noticed this in my post and was kind enough to inform me that it's Uni-Weft. It's such a nice shooting bow that I wanted to share this with you guys.
Best Regards.
-
Wonderfull bocote ! Great greg !
-
Those are some of the finest looking bows I've seen! Gregg is a phenomenal craftsman.
-
If I were to name this bow, I would call it the "Screaming Indian".

Well half the battle of choosing woods is done, I just purchased these limb veneers from Idahocurt's website. I think they're going to look awesome on my Elkheart. Now to decide on a riser wood to compliment them.

-
Just a bump to keep this thread going.
You've got to love Java Man's work!
-
Cocobolo, Wenge, Zebra wood, Ebony
Just curious, you putting darker end of veneers toward tips ir riser?
Gregg will make you a awesome bow!
-
I shot my buddies Assyrian alot tonight....and these Javaman bows are incredible. The draw is so smooth!! The bow feels way lighter than its marked...its crazy how smooth!
Can't wait to get the call from Gregg lettin me know its my turn!
-
Jack, I'm thinking of putting the darker part of the veneers toward the limb tips. Right now I'm leaning towards coco bolo, Macassar ebony or Zircote for the riser.
-
Fred, Those limbs are going to look Awesome Brother and I agree Ziricote or Wenge will look good with those..You always have good taste when you have a bow made so I know it won't be "Ugly"
-
hears mine I have no idea how to post pics but hopefully this works its bocote and Osage spliced veneers

-
Here's a pic of a Wenge and phenolic riser. I think this would go well with those limb veneers as well.

The revival of this thread did not help me with my patient wait for my new Assyrian.
Beautiful bows and awesome shooters. Guess I'll go back to waiting and dreaming for now.
-
Gregg never fails to please. A Java Man is always a good decision.
-
impressive looking bows.
-
Picked up my Java Man Elk Heart just before the K'zoo Expo and took it with me to get a pic of Greg with the bow. Had it out stumping yesterday and still VERY happy with it.
2-piece bow bolt, cocobolo riser with phenolic I-beam and maple veneers dyed with hickory stain. Fairly subtle and, in my freely offered opinion, just plain classy!

Beautiful Bows! You would be hard pressed to find a better fella than Gregg to build you a bow. They are outstanding performers also.

My buddy KSShrewman received his latest Java creation today. Hopefully he will post some pics soon because it's a beauty.

Here is my newest. 56" Elkheart, 45#@28". Veneers I got from curt at the wood vault. Curly Koa splice w flame myrtle. The riser is curly Koa and curly walnut. Tips and overlay moose. Plan to shoot tomorrow for first time. Greggs work is always top notch!

"I think She's a Beaut"!Yep!
-
Very nice! How about a update after ya sling some arrows?
-
Ok Rob. Here's the first report. Refresh...56" Elkheart #45@28". Took it out this a.m. Beautiful morning here in KS. Loosed about 30 woodies. Typically I have ordered 2 piece from Gregg. So my first though was its very light because it's missing the weight of the bolt. But Gregg and I discussed that prior. I decided no phenolic as weight is not a huge deal to me as I hunt with bow quiver and 4-5 arrows on the bow so I will have plenty of weight. I shot this morning w quiver and without. Both ways it was quick, quiet and straight. Greggs bows are so smooth with no handshock at all. Overall it's a pleasure and easy to shoot. This pic is of 2nd group. First one wasn't bad....but wasn't this tight. This bow will take its first hunt to Canada for black bears in Aug! :archer2:

KS, i saw that bow on Greggs facebook...wow!! beauty!!
-
Nice group especially considering just second group from a new bow. The bears are gonna be in trouble come August!
-
KSshrewman , I'm on Gregg's list for a 58 " and am considering a 45 pounder. How do you feel about the 45 ? Ample speed and power ? Not sure I'm ready to drop from 50 to just yet and am wondering .
-
Tim sent u email.
-
This is a fantastic thread! Beautiful bows.... I guess I will have to head over to Gregg's website and check his bows out in more detail! Thanks 1/4 for starting this.... it may cost me some money though!?

-
davey,
that bow looks familiar! LOL
that bow is a looker!
i would have kept it but it was a bit too heavy for me for the length. i asked gregg, but no more weight can be taken off.
i am on his list for a new one, and i got a loaner coffee bow from a close friend to shoot till then.
i will try and get a pic up once its in my hands this week.
