Hey guys I have an older bear kodiak magnum I Need a string for. How many strands should I get for the string. I know the string has to be dacron also. Thanks abunch
-
What's the draw weight? That will help determine how many strands you should get.

45 @ 28

a 14 strand dacron string would probably be fine!
If you used a sponsor here like Allen Shaffer (Ten Ring Strings) all you'd need to do is give him the bow info and he'd hook you up.

thanks I just made an order

Allen's B-55 is on my K-Mag. Great string, stretches only a little and settles right in.

I use 12 strands on my 45#

Kristian, be patient with your new string on your old K Mag. I have two, both 50#, and they are the most brace-height sensitive bows I own, which makes sense given that they are only 48 " tip to tip when strung. I have and handful of 48" B-55 strings that have stretched to the point that they have to be twisted like a dishrag to get the brace height correct and 47" strings that have almost no twists left in them. With the brace height below 8", the K Mags seem sluggish and prone to wrist slap on release , over 9" and they are really twangy despite string silencers.
One of your Alberta neighbors, DDave, shoots a 1961 K Mag with a BCY-X string made by another Canadian TG member and swears that's the best and quietest string for that bow.

Thanks I'll contact ddave and talk to him about it

Try a B-55 string. Stretches less than a B-50. 12 or 14 strands should work fine. B-55 is still Dacron.

Thanks Mark for the vote of confidence...that is actually a 1962 KMag...the 1961 is a Kodiak...and I would be happy to demonstrate the effectiveness of that bow and string any time

Same here - another thumbs up - and I agree with BH on the KMag, it is picky. Mine definitely gets noisy fast when you get away from the BH it likes; mine is 8-1/4". Until I figured that out when I first bought the bow and shot it I was wondering if I made a mistake.

I got a couple real nice strings from Bearbowman (steve) at http://flemishstrings.com/ He helped me identify the year of my bow, made two different strings that match it perfectly and was a pleasure to do business with.
I like my brace height at 8 1/2 inches. My strings are 14 strand B-50 I believe.
Here is a pic of both strings. One is on the bow the other is my backup. The pic does not do them justice.

Not to highjack the thread, but as long as we are talking brace height, I bought my K-Mag used (It's a 1971) what is the BH range? I've assumed 7"-8" but you guys are saying that your bows are higher than that. B-55 is great, I will have Allen make one for my '71 Kodiak Hunter soon as well.

Definately 8-9".
