Title: Copperhead skins over brown glass ?
Post by: jt85 on June 18, 2015, 06:36:00 PM
Does anyone have any pictures of Copperhead skins over brown glass? How do you think they would turn out?

Too dark for my liking - copperhead skins really need a lighter colored background.  They are very thin, and to me, look best over yew or osage.

Jim Neaves solves this problem by employing a process that involves laying down a coat of light copper colored paint prior to applying the skins and it makes them POP.  Thats how he's able to keep them bright when applying over carbon.  Send him your bow he'll skin it so well it looks painted on.

Do a forum and Web search for Centaur with copperhead skins and you'll see what I mean.

I too would recommend a thin acrylic overlay. I paint mine with a cream color. They really pop. I have painted fluorescent green under diamondbacks before and they look awesome. But brown or black under copperheads does not work real well as it hides the pattern .

God bless, Steve

jt',

Here is a Dark Matter Centaur Jim Neaves did with Copperheads last year.  See how bright they are?, even over the carbon.  Its all in the process and he has it down  pat.  He can do it on other bows if you send it to him.

That Dale Dye and that Centaur (the little bit that we can see) look great imo. I like the darker look myself.

I think the Copperheads would match that wood combo well jt'.

If you're unsure you could always install a set of Limbsations to see if you like the look for a low cost, they are removable if you don't like it.

I installed copperhead skins on brown glass with one of my Rocky Mt Recurves. They look very nice, but came out mostly silver and dark, dark brown. I like the looks, but they surely don't look like the natural snake skin color.

Imo I would give Bob Morrison a call.   The best at doing skins I have seen.
