Stickhorse was the generous donor of the trip. Bob is a hell of a nice guy! the evening I got there, we went out and did some hiking and stumping. I didn't take any pics of us shooting but here are a couple from the area...

heres one of a bear we saw. we ended up seeing over 100 elk, some dandy muleys, and a couple of bears over the weekend...

maybe no big deal to most, but the Rio Grande river here is fly and lure only, but you can keep two fish. ive never heard of a stream that's fly and lure only that isn't strictly catch and release. seemed strange... of course, we released all.
I couldn't not believe some of the houses along the river. must be nice to be rolling in cash!

that's Bob in the middle, and his son in law Jesse in back. I only have a couple fish pics myself, and ill post em up, but I know they have some as well. maybe bob will add em. anyway..
the fishing was absolutely unreal!

we didn't measure a fish all day, or keep count, but im gonna say on Saturday we boated 40ish of these big browns. the average size was probably 15-17 inches (I brought that average down a tad with a couple solid 11 inchers), and we got our share of the bigger ones. id say the bigger ones were around 19-20, and VERY fat. big, big wild trout. just an unreal day. I didn't take many pics because I was too busy fishing!
anyway, ill keep this thread kind of short, but figured everyone would like to see St. Judes in action. this trip exceeded my expectations in all ways, and I made some new friends. I hope Bob donates a trip again next year. im kind of torn on the subject. the kind part of me says let someone else go enjoy it, and the greedy part says that was WAY too much fun, and if someone else thinks theyre going, they better bring their bidding "A" game to auction next year!

Looks like you have some fun buddy

I keep telling myself I need to fish Colorado one fall instead of hunting it. Your making my decision harder with this post. Glad you had a great time.

I did a float above Del Norte several years ago. Fishing was very good, most folks don't think of the Rio Grande as a trout River, but like you I will go back.
It was really nice of those guys to donate such a great experience.

Looks like a fantastic trip. Congrats and thanks to you and Bob!

Brad that was a great trip you did. I hope that my St Jude's auction hunt goes as well. Will be heading to East Ohio for Whitetails in November.
-
I want to thank Brad for the donation to St.Jude as I feel their is no better place to HELP kids.
I had a great time stumping & hiking with brad.
Now for the Main event FISHING: I do think Brad was enjoying it, but every now and then not!
as something like this came out:
Just grab it you #&%!! Fish. :scared:
But then he would calm down and recast. LOL
We did have one Little mishap, I rowed over a small rock and it went Bump, Brad thought he was going for a swim!! it could have been very refreshing, as he pointed out later he thought the water was a little cool.
All in all I had a very enjoyable weekend bumming around with Brad. It is always good to spend time in the woods with a like minded friend.
I do have some pick and will try and get them up soon.

Brad/Bob,
Nicely done on both parts. It looks like there were three winners here; you two and St. Jude's. Thanks for taking us along. These threads are great for promoting the auction and of course entertainment for us.

What a cool donation to the St. Jude auction this year! Very generous on both ends, and looks like a great time had by all. Congrats and thank you to all involved.
I'll sure be paying attention if this one comes up again!

Never float fished, but residing in MT, I enjoyed the enviable reality of guiding walking fishing on the Gallitin and Madison.
When I returned just a few years later, all the tiny hidey holes had out-of-state license plate vehicles in them... When you guide, you teach!
I much enjoyed the thrill of stalking big fish, rainbows, cutbows, brownies on all the MT streams and lakes and we even "belly boated" (those canvass covered truck inner tube things) and had wonderful memories
Your story brings some of those back to focus.
Fun to see a "lie" and cast to it and there is actually a FISH right there... Not like back East where they vacuum them out to take home and put in the freezer to later go to the landfill. :(
Wonderful experience it seems. Hope the host posts up those promised pics!
Good job by all for the kids as all have commented!

Real nice........

Bob, I happen to remember some of those bleepity bleep words coming from other members of the party, for the same reason lol
-
Brad lets just say we all were very excited!!
Promised a few more picks so lets get on with it.
This is our start point for our hike & stumping (http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae298/bfreese_2010/041_1.jpg)
the trail we followed was along this small creek that runs and then goes under ground, in a couple hundred yards is back up and running again.
we checked out a few of the old scrapes from last year on the way up.
This guy comes out to see who is using his trail & as usual was right on time to check us out.

This was our turn around point about 900' up from where we started. (http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae298/bfreese_2010/042_1.jpg)
Needles to say a lot of stumps, sticks & even a few flowers were kilt along the way.
It was a good Day!!
Really wanted to try Brad's new stalker bow ( it is a looker) but with 55#@ 26" and my 30" draw was not sure who would blow up first me or his bow.lol
Will post some more FISH picks when I get them from our other fisherman.
-
Ha!
Had you dropped an Adams dry on that tiny crick in any flat water, you'd have likely had a fish with a big head and small body...
900' can be a bit "thin" for a flatlander
Boy...do those pics bring back fond memories of when I was more agile and a lot, LOT younger...
Gotta love the mountains!
-
Well here is one more of the kind of fish we were catching, sorry I should have taken Brads advice and cropped the top so you good people would not have to look at my ugly mug.

was a good Day

Awesome! I wanted to bid on that trip, but just could not swing it this year!
Looks like a fantastic time afloat!
