Title: String tracker at 27 yards
Post by: DanielB89 on August 12, 2015, 09:59:00 PM
I made another video this evening with my thunder child.  I was trying out a string tracker that a friend made me.  I think it turned out GREAT! I knew it would work well under 20 yards, but did not really know about a range closer to 30, especially with a traditional bow.

I believe I will be using this jewel this season.

I do apologize in advance for the towels hanging on the line as it does affect the footage a little, but we like to save energy when we can.

Well done. Proof again that when you set them up right, a string tracker can be shot a great distances. My longest kill using one was right at 33 yards.

Thanks for sharing that.

Jerry,

i was hoping you would chime in. I am going to try it out this year.  that was at 27 yards and I don't THINK I compensated for it.  Hopefully the animal will be closer.  :)

Have you ever used one while stalking animals?

Daniel, wait till you shoot a critter with it. It is sooooooooo cool to watch that line peeling out as the critter runs off after the shot!

I have used one while stalking, and that is not the best environment for it! If you are in brush, it WILL get hung up. If you were stalking thru more open country, it might be a bit more managable

(tongue in check)  I have never had a long track on a foam target; especial if it has already been quartered and hung!

Nice video.  Thanks for posting.

What configuration of string coil are you using?  It looks like a commercially wound spool coming off from inside the roll.  Care to share what material and how it was spooled?

Bisch, I think it would be in a more open terrain.

I would love to have one for if I shoot a pig and they all scatter.

whats your farthest kill with one?

I just gave one to a friend of mine that has issues with tracking. Hope he gets to use it this year.

I found at 20yds no difference in flight but at 30 I was about 6" low.

My farthest shot is under 20yds.

My longest track with a string on it was on an unrecovered pig that strung out 2000' of line before it broke in South Texas brush! I could not believe it went as far as it did, thru what it did, without breaking sooner than it did! It was a nighttime shot, and I do not know where the hit was, but it was obviously not in the right place!

In two weeks I'll be using one for my bear hunt.  Used one on the last bear I shot 15 years ago and it worked great.

I've only shot one animal with mine. A 272# hog that went about 250 yrds thru some pretty nasty stuff. I would have never found him if It wasn't for my string tracker. I will have it on my bow everytime I'm in a stand from now on. I'm ordering my wife one as well for our bear hunt next month. It's one of those things that once you use it you wonder how you ever lived without it and why you didn't start sooner!!!

That is a nicely built string tracker. Would work great on them hogs since they usually don't bleed very much.

Corey,

that was my exact thinking.  I have also shot a hog before and when they scatter, i'm just guessing as to which one was mine.

Keith,

I'm glad you like them bud! I usually just put anything "extra" on my bows.  I don't even trim the tag ends, just put it on and shoot!

I had tweeked them a little since I sent you those last august.  I have around 10 strings already made up and ready to ship that did not sell at shoots this year if you're in need.  I have them from 51.5" all the way up to 63.

Slickhead and quail,

Chad Orde(may have spelt that wrong) sells them on here.  I believe he posted a pic of them in a thread.

That is not one of Chad's, is it? It looks a bit different than the ones Chad makes.

Btw, you got Chad's name correct, but you "spelt" spelled wrong!

I Don't use them while stalking. If you are concentrating on keeping it from getting tangled, you are concentrating on the wrong thing.

Chad made me and my son Luke some AWESOME string tracker covers.

A friend of mine, Green on here, lent me his that was made by Chad. I have always mounted mine to a bracket in front of the bow, but after trying Chads out, I ordered one today!

haha! that is pretty funny.

This one was made by a guy off of facebook.  IT is not as nice, but was in trade for a couple strings, so I can't complain.  I think this guy did a great job for never having built one before!
