Shot this bear on 9/11 after many hours sitting on a waterhole that is in a thick patch of berries and acorns. The shot was all of 6 yards and the recovery was 20 yds. I was shooting a Foley longbow at 50# and 160 gr. STOS broadhead.

Congrats on a great looking bear!

Bob: No, I was in a treestand in an aspen tree. Usually when it is hot the bears like to come into this very small, spring-fed waterhole and cool off during the middle of the day. I shot a bear at this same location last year at about 3 PM. I probably had 50 hours sitting on this stand so far this year including a couple of 14 hour days (6 AM to 8 PM). I am hunting at a fairly low elevation (8400 ft) where the oak brush and aspen meet. This bear came in behind me in the brush at 11 AM. I first saw brush moving where he was getting berries. He came by at about 6 yards through a small opening in the brush.

Congrats Mr Jim! I wish I had bought a bear tag when they were available. Since I tagged out on elk the second day....

Outstanding, Jim! Congratulations!
-
SWEET!! Congrats Jim!!
-
I took the picture with my cell phone by leaning it on my pack. The photo makes the bear look bigger than he really is. It is an average sized bear for where I hunt. I did see a big one early one morning but he didn't get close enough for a shot. Jim
