This will be kind of dragged out this year. With new responsibilities at work, I can't take off another full week.(Went to NE for muleys earlier)
I've been a few times here this year, with several smaller bucks sighted and numerous does, but no big does close nuff to take....
This morn, 37 and frosty with a dang east wind that we've had an unusual amount of this fall, I got in a stand that's new this year. I'll try to get more pics as I go here(sorry) .
About sunup, this dude comes strolling in slickly behind a pinoak to me as he cut across a beanfield to the trail I was watching....

Sorry for the crappy fone pic, didn't have my other camera out and he was coming right on!!

Tonite I have a hot tip that a huge buck has been coming off my place every morning. LOL
My place is in switchgrass and big bluestem now and there are some deer staying on it.
Gotta take the big buck sightings with a grain(pound) of salt usually tho.
I did find some large tracks after it rained a couple days back so with my bush in a bag in hand and a stool at ready, I have a cedar tree picked out for tonites short sit.
Bad thing about it is it will be a very close shot, like 12 feet! He will hear my heart....
-
Watch out Kenny, I HAVE had does hear me draw my arrow at just one step further than that.
Good luck on this guy.
ChuckC
-
LOL, the does came in behind me and had a snortfest tonite. I sat til dark just to show em....
-
Nice! Good luck and thanks for sharing.
I love to hear how my MO brothers are doing!
Keep at'em!
-
Gotta work for a few days, but maybe Thursday.....
Gonna be frosty again by then, and the bucks are starting to really move. The fellows on the lease saw 2 nice ones tonite in shooting light!
-
Good luck Kenny.... How was NE?
-
NE was really hot, 105 first day and upper 90s rest of trip. Not the best hunting for a short fat guy! LOL
I'm gonna be back in the saddle for whitetails in the morning, taking off a vacation day at work. Sposed to be 33* and a nice steady 10 mph wind from NW. Think I can find a spot for that combo!
The bucks have really started moving around here now, hope to at least have a pic or two by tomorrow eve....
-
Hey Charlie, I did find 56 cents at your campsite when we were up there.
-
Got a late start yesterday, didn't hit stand til 11, deer were on their feet about 12 but no bucks. Did get a trophy I've been wanting for a while tho....

Here was my setup, you can see the wheat and the creek, I'm in a point of woods that comes to a point right where you are looking. I'm about 20 from where the trail comes in from the wheat and behind the stand 20 yards is the creek.Looking south...

This is to the north ,to left of stand. Creek is on left of pic...

This stand is where I got a buck last year, first sit here this year. The wind wasn't working right, needed more west in it, so I bailed early. Scent was going southerly and that is where I expected bucks to come from.
Here is last years deer...

Danged SE wind, we usually have very few in the fall,so we don't set many stands up for it. I may try a ghillie tonite.......

Sorry, been around Mr Lamb for a week!! I watched her in the tall weeds til I lost her, must have been when she turned and went down. That's right where I found her. Was trying to cut her trail when there she lay!

My absence was due to mounting 4 blade Deltas and getting em super sharp and ready to go. Not sure why I didn't have a blood trail, usually do with Deltas, but I'm goin 4 blade and if the next one don't have a super trail, I'm gonna find another head completely.....
-
Hard to beat a bloody arrow. Nice Ken.
-
Oh yeah, it was a double lung, she didn't run really hard so maybe that's why she wasn't blowing a lot of blood. I'm sure if I'd gotten on the ol knees I could have found a few drops. Makes you wonder if you saw what you saw! Thought it was a textbook shot, but I tracked her by her tracks in the soft wheatfield 25 yards with out a drop.
-
4 blade delta sure ought to normally make for easy blood trails. Sometimes stuff just happens - fat plugs the hole, etc. and they just don't bleed like they should. I doubt it was the head.
Congrats on the doe either way!
-
Well done Kenny. Congratulations.
-
Thanks guys! Bisch, sorry , shot her with 2 blade. Have 4 blades Deltas mounted up now.
Sorry for the confusion!
-
Way to go Kenny! Great story!
-
I'm not sure if the four blades will make a difference or not. I shot a dall sheep several years ago with a four blade muzzy. I was certain I had missed, the sheep didn't run, just walked about 50 yards and then fell over dead. You would think you could see blood on a white animal with binos, but nothing! I've shot deer with Zwicky eskimo's and deltas with zero blood until the dead animal. I have had great blood trails with two blade single bevels, both grizzlies and cutthroats.
-
Nice shot Kenny!! Congrats! Where abouts in NE were you huntin mulies at?
-
Nice deer Kenny! Tell us about the new bow looks sharp.
-
Nice shooting, Kenny.
Congratulations and God bless,
Rodd
-
Congratulations Kenny. Gotta love those pictures of red arrows burried in the dirt!
-
Congrats great doe!
-
Well done Kenny, nice photos.
-
Nice shooting Kenny!

Great shooting!!!!

Thanks again guys, my hunting is done til later in the week now.
Steve, we were at Halsey, and also made a tour up to Crawford. It was just too hot to be good!
John, that bow is just a TD longbow I've been fiddling with, finally made a riser that has the grip of a Samick Sage would you believe. Fits bro and I better than anything else we've tried.
Looks a little funky because the grip is narrower than the Sage so I couldn't round it over as smoothly as I like.....
Shoots great for us tho!
-
Congrats!!! Good shooting!!!
-
Kenny, I made a shot real similar to the one you made on that doe but hit the atrium...I made the shot in the snow and there wasn't hardly a drop of blood for the entire 150 yard dash. I am pretty sure that the lack of.blood was due to a "dry pump" scenario that did not allow the heart to pull in blood akin to trying to drink through a straw with a pin hole.
It had me real stumped until the autopsy showed the reason.
-
I looked at the lungs and had both ventilated. Didn't get into the rest! Thanks for the info, wish I'd spent a bit more time on autopsy now!
-
Congrats Kenny!!!!
-
Congrats again buddy!!
-
At least one of the bunch can shoot!! Congratulations buddy.
-
Nice job Kenny!

I wasn't gonna tell this but my arrow was kind of weebly on the way, so that's why it was such a nice shot. :D
But I figured why when I shot a judo next day. That wonderful orange vest bottom corner caught the string a little from the sitting position.
I learn something every time out! :deadhorse:
-
Way to make it happen with the new bow!!
-
OK , 4 letter word work outta the way for the week.
Back at it in AM, lucky break, wind from WNW in morn with 39* temp, and the bucks are definitely on their feet in the daytime!!
-
Great morning, saw 7 bucks, only 1 that I really wanted, bout a 140" 10 point, but he missed my ambush by 50 yards. :)
Brandon should be here in time to hunt this eve, and I'm trying to figure where to put him for best chance at a deer, hopin!!

Wondered where I dropped that... The Game warden said its the most haunted spot in NE, we lost a frying pan and face masks as well. The storm did us in and blew our tent over as well as half our stuff across the prairie. Never seen wind so fierce for such an extended period.
-
Congrats on the Deer Kenny, Good luck on your days off!
-
Have a great hunt with your family Kenny! Congrats on the doe!
-
Thanks Charlie!
John was in the deer tonite, big 10 chasing the heck out of a doe. Was 5 yards once but going full bore so no shot.
Brandon didn't make it til too late to hunt, and I had 1 deer at dusk.
Wide 8 I think with medium tine length, but he went the wrong way when he came out of bed! LOL
