I just ordered some 200 grain VPA 3 blades to try. I've always used a two blade (mostly single bevel recently), and never had an issue shooting through the shoulder of a deer and still getting two holes.
I'm sure with my set up (60# at my 30.5" draw/597 grain arrow), I've got plenty of juice for any whitetail on the planet. I'm just curious if anybody has some aftermath photos of these broadheads hitting shoulder blades.
Just a confidence booster. And yes...I've already done a search. May consider using them for elk next year if they perform well enough and can hold up.
-
I don't have any pics but they did a number on a spine of a big whitetail yesterday. I severed it twice and the third took out ribs and shoulder on finishing shot. This was with a 47# Border Covert Hunter
-
No pics but i shot a 6 point last Saturday with a 200 gr vpa 3 blade. 63# longbow 630grain arrow. Shot through top of the left shoulder blade, the front of the heart and exited through the right leg and stuck in the ground. Excellent blood trail and 30 yd recovery. Great heads
-
Just wondering, why switch with the excellant results u have already experienced with the 2blade heads?

I'm shooting VPA 250's. They are unbelievable.
-
I don't have any pictures but the 200 grain VPA 3 blade has been real good to me.
-
My most memorable. Used a Razorcap and the moose took 3 steps and went down.

My son and his first recurve deer. Aidan is 14 and started hunting on his own in a tree stand last year. Needless to say he learned a lot without dad sitting over his shoulder. 3 blade 125 grain woodsman and not so perfect hit. 44# Tall Tines. Pass through!!

Well, I honestly want to see the difference in blood trails. While my two blades are tanks and can shoot through a rhino, there have been a couple times where deer shot through the lungs fell in sight, but never really left much of a blood trail. I like to experiment and better understand the capabilities of different equipment.

Woodsman - Being my 1st trad kill, I was quite impressed with a clean pass through at 18yds. Picture is cropped, but deer quartering away and arrow entered near the back leg and exited by the back rib. Notice my arrow with bright yellow wraps and bright orange fletching is not recognizable.

The hog weighed 272#, the bow is "Hope" from the st. Jude's auction. It's a Sarrells blue ridge sr, 54#@ 28", I draw about 27.5". 175 grn grizzly instincts on Douglas fir shafts from Surewood Steve.
I had the bow during it's time being passed around before the auction and was able to take this hog.
Oh, and I ended up with the high bid on the auction!
-
If I shot a 60# bow I would usually shoot a three blade head. I have killed many with three blades but with my bows being 50@28 and me only drawing them to 26.5" I am at about 46 pounds and the two blade heads give me more outlet holes.

That deer you shot through the front leg...did that hit bone? How did the broadhead hold up and was it reusable? What kind of penetration did you get and what were the bow specs, if you don't mind.

Awesome pics everybody. I just got my VPA's in the mail today. They are a little harder to sharpen than I thought they'd be, but I got them shaving hair and they seem to shoot good. May have to really test them in the morning.
