I have a couple of dual shelf bows and have been messing around shooting left handed. I have shot right hand since I was 10 years old, 63 now. I just want to be able to shoot both for the fun of it and to keep my physical attributes equal. I just put together an ILF rig with a set of light limbs to work my left side. Anybody else gone this route?? OH, I forgot, always shoot righty but I'm left eye dominate. :dunno:

Ron I have been preaching the benefits of shooting both sides for some time as you can see from my tag line...like you I am, or at least was, left eye dominant...that causes me no issues that I can detect...I just turned 64 and I can easily shoot my age in draw weight both sides which I think is a testament to the benefits of doing that

From age 7 to somewhere around 27 I shot right handed. One day I read an article about eye dominance and low and behold discovered I was left eye dominant. Ordered a left handed Blackwidow and made the switch. The best move I ever made.

I am right handed and right eye dominant. I switched to LH because of a shoulder injury unrelated to archery. I am capable of shooting both now but RH hurts badly so I don't do it often.
It took me a long time to work the eyes.
Two of my children are left eye dominant and right handed. I started them on dual shelf and just let them shoot whatever side they want. They both started shooting about 50/50 then both chose to eventually shoot nothing but left handed

I'm RH and left-eye dominant. I shot RH for 28 years. I switched to LH in 1996 to conquer target panic (it worked from the first minute).
I can now shoot RH as well but only do so when testing kids' bows, arrows, target butts, etc.

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. Never had any issues shooting righty. Anything left handed feels so awkward I can't imagine being able to make it work.

I find one of the toughest things shooting lefty is just putting the arrow on the string.......it just feel awkward after doing right handed for so long........The mind is a funny thing.

I did early in my bow career. I'm right handed in everything except shooting a bow. When I started shooting back in the early 50's shooting right handed just didn't feel right. Thankfully I had a bow that could be shot either way.

Right handed, left eye dominant here. I have always shot righty, as that is how I was taught. I wish i shot left handed. This winter i'm going to sell a few of my lesser used righty bows and buy left handed bow to shoot all winter. I have read way too many positive things about shooting from the same side as the dominant eye to not give it a very serious try.

Knocking the arrow is a very awkward step in the process. I quite often (shooting left handed for a few years now) still knock RH and switch the bow

For me it was tougher to get the nock on the string then switching sides. No issues with eye dominance (right eye).

I'm left eye dominate and had always shot right handed. After reading some articles about eye dominance I decided to pick up a left hand bow and give it a try. I was amazed at how much better I shot and how nice it was to see only one clear arrow in my secondary vision. I was so right handed that I couldn't pick my nose with my left hand and yes it was awkward to nock a arrow. But I got a left handed back quiver and filled it with arrows. I would grab an arrow and nock it and then grab another and nock and etc until the quiver was empty. Didn't shoot them, just let them fall off the string to grab another arrow. After a couple weeks of that over and over it became natural. I shot left handed for 10 to 12 years but then I developed that terrible thing called target panic. Nothing worked until I went back to right hand shooting. Still shooting right hand now with a lot of my arrows going left to where I want them to stick but that's the way it is. I tried going back to left recently but the TP was still there.

I am left handed, but my first bow was a $5 Bear recurve my step-dad found at a yard sale. I shot right handed for years, until I actually bought a bow new, and then it was left handed. It took quite some time to get used to, even though I'm also left eye dominant.

I did (thank you Kat for help finding a LH bow) when I did something very stupid and my tractor snipped the end off my right hand ring finger. It was reattached successfully but for 18 months or so I was shooting lefty.
It took some doing and I had to think constantly about what I was doing. What it did do was make me rethink form and pay attention to every aspect and actually helped when I went back to right handed.

I am RH and switched to LH after 3 years of RH shooting because i my left eye is dominant. Now i can shot both sides, but better as lefty.

it felt more natural for me to shoot left handed when I first started but I never gave myself a chance to grow into because I am right eye dom. however, I would do it for kicks and giggles if I ever came across a left hand bow at the right price

I shoot LH and I am right eye dominant. I have been shooting a Bow LH for 40 years. I also shoot a handgun LH but shoot a rifle and shotgun RH. I am all messed up. :confused:

I did and will/can never go back.
Everything was better except that arrow nocking thingy. However after about a couple of hundred arrows, good to go now.

I am left handed and left eye. My boys are right handed, but took their right handed bows and were shooting left handed with them. I tried to correct them but they resisted, saying it felt better to shoot lefty. That's when I realized that they were left eye dominant.

I am right handed..left eye dominant. I made the switch 2 years ago and it greatly improved my shooting. Its akward at first...but it doesnt take long to feel natural.

I am 63yrs. old right handed and left eye dominant. Mike Palmer of Palmer Bows at Denton told me to give it a chance. I now have two left hand bows. I got both bows in Oct. too late in the year to try. Now that deer season is almost over I am going to give it a honest effort. t

Ron, I think you know I switched over 3 or 4 years ago. I still have one RH bow (my Lost Creek Judge) that I keep up in my shop. When I take one of my lefties up to shoot, I always finish up with some right handed shooting.
As you pointed out, the only difficult part of switching was nocking that darned arrow. Felt like I was trying to write left handed. It feels totally natural now, though, and of course I have no trouble nocking the arrow right handed.
Accuracy wise, I am equally bad with either hand, but can shoot somewhat faster lefthanded because I don't have to squint my left eye like I do when shooting from the wrong side.

I am right/ right for 60 years. Got a great Pearson left handed bow and toyed with left hand shooting. I have a couple of left bows hanging around. I have to remember, each time, to close my right eye. The 36 pound bow is easy to draw, but I shoot high right with it so far. Not giving up, just going to work on it between rabbit hunts

I made the switch many years ago because of poor vision in my right eye. Since I was left eye dominant it wasn't hard to switch. Some people told me to start with a low poundage bow so I bought one and found out I could actually pull more poundage from a left hand bow. It was just much easier to shoot left handed.
It worked out for the better also because I ended up eventually losing all sight in my right eye.

I enjoy shooting both sides. Figure its good for the muscles too.

I'm going to give lefty a try pretty much for the balance but don't have a LH bow. Has anyone used a RH longbow shooting left? That speed shooter Lars Anderson shoots right with the arrow on the left to speed nocking.

I started shooting right handed (compound) when I was 15. Started shooting trad (exclusively) at 42 right handed. Figured out shortly after that i was left eye dominant. Switched to left in February of this year (at 45). Within about 8 months I was shooting at least as well left handed with trad as I ever did right handed. The awkwardness of putting the arrow on the string started to disappear after 2-3 weeks. I kind of got derailed the first week of November when I blew out my ACL... Shot my wife's new Prairie Predator (right handed) "to get it shot in" before I gave it to her for her birthday at the end of November. I shot it as well or better than any other bow I've ever shot. I don't know if that was a testament to a fine bow or if I just was concentrating more on form. Anyway, I plan to stick primarily with the southpaw thing for a while once I'm fully back in the game.

I am left handed. I shoot right handed archery off my right eye. Left handed pistol right eye. Left handed long guns off left eye.

I am left-eye dominant, right-handed. I tried the switch to lefty and shot about the same as righty. Decided to stick with righty which felt more comfortable. Later on I bought a left bow, but bailed on it right away as it felt too awkward. Shooting instinctively with both eyes open, I can usually hit what I'm aiming at. Still find myself missing to the left sometimes. Best to make the switch early before you get too many bows!
