Title: Short bow and Wide Buck.....
Post by: SAM E. STEPHENS on December 10, 2015, 05:22:00 PM: Been messing around with a little 48in Bear SuperMag and it has proven to be a good shooter. Had one buck tag left and put it to good use this morning on my place. He is the first deer I have shot at on the property and this is our second year of owning it. I am plenty happy to have him , a hot doe is what put him at 15yds quartered away. The shot was good and he only made it about 65yds and went down in sight. I think the little bow is a winner.....

Have a few doe tags left now and always a stray hog might show it's self.....

Beautiful deer and wicked bow. What's your usual draw length? Did you have to change anything to shoot that short of a bow?

I've noticed that when you put a Bear bow in your hands -- some wildlife is in trouble!!!!

Post by: SAM E. STEPHENS on December 10, 2015, 07:33:00 PM: I very seldom put a tape measure on an animal but I had to know. He is 19 3/4 inside spread maybe a tad more but not that magic 20 inch. I am plenty happy with him , he is my widest buck and shot with the shortest bow I have ever shot with. And it just topped it off that I shot him on my own land , great day. It's been a awesome year for me , I just love hunting with my bows and arrows.....

It was very weird at first it felt like the top limb was going to break off and hit me in the face. I draw with a deep hook and anchor hard on my face and hold for several seconds and sometimes longer. I just stare a hole in what I want to hit and hold until something says let go in the brain. And shooting that little bow was rough at first ( guess I was scared of it ) but if I just shoot the way I always do its a killer. I would say good form is the key to a short bow , if I screw up a little it shows big....

Also like that 7 arrow quiver on it for the weight seems like it really calms the bow down....

Post by: MnFn on December 11, 2015, 12:18:00 PM: The Supermag was the last bow I owned before trying a compound. Then a couple years later, I picked the SM back up and rediscovered how much fun traditional archery was.

My favorite length for a bow is closer to 60" than anything else and for that reason I no longer have the Supermag. But it obviously works well for you.

Post by: SAM E. STEPHENS on December 11, 2015, 10:15:00 PM: Just saw a question if my arrows are wood , no they are carbons GT 75/95s , 100gr brass inserts , 125gr steel broadband adapter , 150-190gr glue-on head's..

Another question is how many animals I shoot a year.. I guess it depends on the year some are better than others. If you count hogs and Turkey I would say between 30 and 50 a year...

I'm just a poor boy with great friends that allow me to hunt on great land , I always say my success is due to good places to hunt......
