I agree with what was said above.  Cover, terrain, bedding and/or food generally in that order have all the ingredients for a primary scrape. Predominant wind is also considered.  The best scrapes I’ve ever came across couldn’t hardly be hunted because they were situated perfectly for the deer to access with the wind in their face. Also, I have noticed a lot of them are used year round.  I don’t hunt crop land so I can’t say much on it.  I hunt big tracts of big woods public land.

Agreed with ya there Kirk, I just use bare shaft to get into the ball park.

I think you're right, I think I do get some bounce of the shelf, but the strange thing is that on every bow I have ever shot I get that nock high. It's infuriating. Even with an elevated rest I've never been able to completely eliminate it. I think it has to be some sort of quirk in my form. My accuracy has never really suffered from it so I basically just ignore it anymore.

I understand, although in my experience I've never had to use an excessively high or low nock point to correct any issues, if anything I'd say that most of my bows look like they have the nock point too low. But for whatever reason 99/100 , times when I bare shaft I get some nock high. Doesn't seem to effect anything once feathers are on the arrow.

Sounds like your arrow is most likely hitting the rest and you are getting a false high nock reading to me…. But…. Bare shaft tuning is highly over rated and can be frustrating if you haven’t taken the time to spine match your arrows. Some carbon shafts are incredibly different just rotating them 90 degrees….

I also keep one of the little RADA sharpeners in my pack with my knives to touch up the blades if necessary.

I keep two sheath knives in my pack, a smaller Western that was my dad’s and really holds an edge and a cheaper Mora knife. I use both for field dressing. I really don’t like anything hanging off my belt, catching on brush. In my pocket I keep a Swiss Army super tinker pocket knife that I carry every day.

I use them for the same reason, I like an arrow I can rely on in the rain. Can’t see a difference in flight between them and feathers off the shelf. I can’t remember what glue I used.  But it wasn’t theirs. Most likely Saunders NPV.

I'm lucky, my archery club is 20 minutes from my home and we have a 30 position 3D course with at least two rineharts at every position so I shoot 3D every Sunday. We have actual 3D shoots too. I think 3D helps me be a better hunter picking out where to aim etc.

Just sent you my cell number. Call if I can assist. Been using single bevels for a few years and feel like I’ve figured it out.
