Here's a photo of the boards I made the risers from.

I cut out the belly profile on 14 new risers for my version of the '59 Kodiak, both 60 and 64 inches, and the '60 Bear Kodiak Deluxe. I recently made a trip to Edensaw lumber in Pt. Townsend, WA and bought 3 great boards...one of curly Maple, one of figured Black Limba, and a third, a highly figured large slab of Maple. The limb veneers are all done...ready for risers. Now I'll begin the process of gluing on the riser trim, like the Purpleheart trim on the original '59 Kodiaks.

It’s really tough to get good numbers even from a glass backed or carbon backed lam bow at shorter draw lengths. A shorter bow with a short working limb section is about the only way to pull it off. Also having a limb design with minimal limb travel helps a bunch.

But…. Once you start getting into higher draw weights. Say 60-70 pounds. You’ll start seeing a significant increase in performance at shorter draw lengths.

With glass backed bows, the mass weight in limbs is much less than a self bow, and you’ll see much higher numbers. Reaching 170- 180 fps at your specs is very possible.

Going with the 60" double carbon Omega Native for the fall, 45# @ 28" but drawing to 29. CX Maxima Hunter 250s with 100 grain brass insert and 150 Magnus Stingers; 510 grains total. Will be getting to hunt my first NY archery season since 2021 after being out of state for 2 years; took a doe with this bow that year.

Nice Gobbler JJ. Almost bought a Native a few years ago. I don't think he makes that model anymore.

PowWow / Re: Homemade Permethrin Tick Spray Stinks
« Last post by Stumpkiller on September 16, 2024, 08:12:01 PM »
I went scouting in August three or four years back. My lower legs became lunch for several hundred seed ticks on each. My upper body had a couple hundred Asian tree mite bites ( imagine chiggers on steroids. They eat white oak tree leaves and bite humans). I’ve been using this permethrin premix ever since between early April and late October. Not a tick, chigger, or oak tree bite in a a treated area since. Hope this helps.

That Sawyer's is what I use as well.  Ticks have become a huge problem hereabouts but I have never found one on me with clothing sprayed with this product.  I use it hunting as well as raking leaves and weed-trimming, rotary cutting or cutting firewood.

PowWow / Re: Why I hate hunting shows

I gave up watching "hunting shows" years ago when they started becoming "shooting shows" five minutes of footage with 25 minutes of commercials.  Haven't missed it....

Thanks to all who commented. Since I posted I went to a shop and shot through their chronograph and it showed 140-144 arrow speed that mine showed 127.Then I got mine and went out in sunlight and got 2 good readings out of ten shots. I think the chronograph I have is faulty. Exact arrow shot was 560 grains 26.5 draw 49 lb.i posted three pics of this bow if they go through . That still seems a little slow but it did feel a little better not to be 127. I just hunt and not concerned with speed but do want to make the best bow I can. Thank you all
