which VPA to buy??
« on: December 22, 2015, 05:23:00 PM »
hey everyone, Im considering buying a pack of the 175 grain VPA screw ons. I see I have the choice of 1 1/8 cutting dia. and 3" overall length.

or 1 1/4 cutting dia and 2.5" overall length.

im shooting 45# wing thunderbird. I would be shooting whitetails.

just curious to see what you thoughts would be?

The Penetrators are one of my favorites. Shot one through a buck last year and after pulling it from the dirt it could have been put back in the quiver to kill again. Terminators are also a fine head but the 2 blades fly perfect every time.

I'd go 1 1/8" in a 45 lbs bow.  Love them.

I'd go with the 1/8". An extra 1/16" on each side will be negligible but the longer more steep angle of the edge will slice through easier.

Yep the 3" long thinner ones. Read Dr Ashby's report. The misconception on a thinner broad head is you give up cut but that isn't true. The wider shorter head won't penetrate as much. The longer thinner one will go deeper and will cut more.

I shoot and hunt with both heads you mentioned. The 1 1/8" heads will work great with your 45# bow. Have fun    :archer2:

I shoot the 250gr 2blade penetrators. They are the 1 1/8. Easy to sharpen and fly good.
