Arrow Setup- 60# Longbow

Howdy-
Quick question for you masters out there. I am just wondering if you could give insight on my arrow setup. My wife just got me a 60# longbow for Christmas. I am setting it up with a brace height of about 6.5" but haven't tinkered with it too much. My question lies with my arrow. In my recurves I have always shot woodies but wanted to try carbon arrows. I just picked up some 5575 (400) Gold Tip Traditional arrows and have not cut them yet. Most of my arrows end up about 29"-29.5" since I draw 28". I will be shooting a 125 gr. tip/broadhead and using a 100gr brass insert. I was also going to try using the weight tubes (5gr per inch) to bring my total arrow weight to around 625-635 gr. My FOC was around 20% according to my math but that seemed really high. Any predictions on how they will fly or should I change anything up? I haven't cut or glued anything yet Ibjust wanted to do some checking to make sure I am halfway close. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I shoot a 60 lb Bear Montana with the GT Trad in 7595, full length, with a total of 350 grains up front. They shoot perfectly! Total arrow weight around 650 grains.

Do you know what your FOC is, newhouse? I never really payed attention to it before but have been doing some reading on it and it really plays a big factor in penetration.

I figured it out at one time, can't remember for certain but it was around 19-20%. The setup I described was with a 200 grain grizzly SB BH and a 150 grain steel adapter for the glue on head.

I have a hill style longbow, 60@28 and it likes full length 400 spine shafts but with a lot of weight up front. I have a total of about 375 grains up front however I also have a 2.5" aluminum footing on the arrows which is effectively the same as cutting them 2.5" shorter.

I shoot the same arrow and inserts as you but uncut and 175 gr. points and have great flight.

Those will be too stiff if you cut them down to 29". Start with your set up of point weight at full length. Not sure what the "center cut" on your long bow is - that will have a major impact on how short you can go with that arrow before it becomes too stiff.
I shoot that same arrow out of my 64# recurves cut to center with a total of 250 grains up front cut to 29". I think at full length, you'll likely get great flight out of those shafts - but they'll be too stiff cut down to 29 or 29.5".

On the other hand, rather than using weight tubes, if you add that weight in the form of another 100 grains or so up front, they just might work, the'll give you the weight you're shooting for, and you'll have more FOC to boot. Start full length as JCook recommends and shorten from there if necessary. Good luck.

What kind of longbow?
A 60# ACS will need about 30# more spine than a 60# hill bow.

20% FOC sounds about right for the setup you described. I shot full length GT XT HUnter shafts in .400 spine, with a 100gr brass insert, and a 150gr point/broadhead, and my FOC was just about 22%.
I'm not sure you can get the .400s to work at 60# though, with that much weight up front? You may have to go to the 75/95's to get them long enough. Only personal tuning will tell for sure.

Thanks for all the replies! I have no idea why it keeps reposting that it is a Martin Savannah, maybe it's my phone. I will do some tinkering with the arrows to see what works.

It will have an aluminum insert but I could send a heavier head for you to try if need be...just need on that's 200 grains to make up for the insert you want and I got some 200 grain bheads
