Having a hard time.
« on: January 03, 2016, 12:35:00 AM »
About two weeks ago I caught a coyote Nosing about fifty yards out while I was sneaking up on the ground squirrels . Got behind some tall grass gave it two chirps from my call and could not see it any more. Looking for it to come in or run off. Hear some rustling to my left side and there he was staring at me broad side. He was looking at me but I'm sure he could not make me out. That arrow went right over his head about an inch. Did not pick a spot was googling at he's big yellow eyes. He turned 180 in mid air hit mach 5 in less than a second. Was out in the same place and there he was pretty much in the same spot nosing around.
Blew him a couple of kisses and he turns and hits mach 10. I want this guy. But he's been educated.  Going to have to think out side of the box to get this guy. They haven't been playing easy to get lately. I'm having to work just to seem them lately.

Was at the base of those hills.

Took with me two new arrows I made up. Trade points on bamboo shafts. Shoot great but just no targets that day.

Dang Tim, that country looks to be wide open. You may want to try tying a fluffy feather to something to flutter in the wind. This may or may not work for you but it should get the coyote's attention off of you... I know, this is kinda like me giving Bobby Locke advise on putting, lol.

Well, somebody has to give you a smarta$$ answer, so it might as well be me. Don't miss with your first shot, and he won't get educated. Seriously, I hope you get him. I've seen very few and have only taken a shot at one "educated" coyote. Over all, you seem to be pretty good at this game.

I would think every live coyote left in Thumpers area has heard of his success.

If anyone can get'em, it's you!  Stick with it, and good luck!

Good luck, you'll get him. I was out to Topaz lake a few years ago. I couldn't believe how many coyotes we saw and how close we could get to them. Would have loved to have had my longbow and a call!  Can't imagine how many you could get with a varmint rifle.Even if you just used a rimfire .22 you'd be able to stack them up like cordwood.

Use a call that he may never heard before say a turkey call ,then position a visual attractor high enough he can see it long way off and keep your backside covered in brush of some sorts so your outlines not detected and maybe even mess with his nose ,I'm a trapper so I know about call Lures ,go to the store and buy chicken livers and hang afew near your feathers or visual attractor afew days won't hurt  ,then have fun.
