Drop Camp for Elk
« on: January 12, 2016, 10:52:00 AM »
Greetings!  I and a friend are looking for an outfitter that you would recommend for a drop-camp hunt for elk.  Looking to be taken in on horseback and picked up after a few days.  PROBABLY Colorado in an OTC unit, but open to NM, WY, wherever we can get drawn easily.  No need to shoot a "trophy" becuase they are ALL trophies wiith trad gear.  Thanks for any and all help!

You might want to contact Silver Spur Outfitters in Montrose, Co. My son and did a guided hunt with them last fall. Top notch outfit that may also offer a drop camp option. We hunted out of New Castle.

You can try winter hawk outfitters hunts GMU 25 & 26 OTC outside the flattop wilderness. Both excellent units.
Bowhunting is a passion, not an obsession. Its just hard for my wife to tell the difference sometimes.

Not trying to be contrary, but if you pick a state and an area then study it inside out you can do a DIY and have more flexibility.

Plusses on the drop though are your equipment provided and ready to hunt and you can fly in with just basic gear.

I've used outfitters four times and three of those were less than satisfactory.

I personally wouldn't do Winterhawk unless you go in the first 2 weeks. Super crowded

I did a DIY last year. Lots of outfitters were on the trail dropping people off. If I was going to do a drop camp, I'd probably go the first week so you know nobody was in the camp two days before you.
