Whip arrow questions
« on: January 28, 2016, 01:02:00 AM »
50# @ 29.5" I believe I draw 29.5"
64"Whip HS

Tried Axis traditional 500's with 16 grain insert and 175 grain heads, showing weak.

Arrows are cut to 30.25 so I don't have much more I can cut off.

Would full length 400's be a better option considering I want to shoot the 175 grain heads as I have a lot of them?

Hi there

I find that really weird im shooting allmost the same setup as yours, Whip 64 HS 50# @ 28 i draw 29,5-7 shooting GT trad blems 500 cut to 30,25 as yours ( mine is pure shaft lenght though ) with a standard alu insert and a 145 (edit from 175, brainfart) field as well, hmm i dont really feel mine fly bad at all including bareshafting etc. 3 x 5" shield cut btw , then ive never had any experience with the axis 400 but shot the Black Eagle Carnivore's 400 a lot cut to 30,50 (again pure shaft lenght ) 100 grain brass insert + 28 gr xstra insert +100 gr field tip 4 x 3" parabolic great arrows for 20-25 yards after that trajectory was to steep for my liking shoot only 3d atm   :(

yeah I would be shooting 400s on that rig.  in fact my brother just got a 64" 51@28 Whip and bareshafted with the help of the RMSGear boys in Wheat Ridge and ended up with perfect flight on 30.25" 400 centershot carbons with 200g heads up front/ go figure?  I think a full length 400 axis trad would do you right, and only require some brace height fiddling to get you where you need.

The whips do like a stiffer spine. I've got a 66" 50#@28"'which I draw to 29.5" and I tried 400's, but ultimately went to 340's full length GT hunters with 225 up front.

They tend to like stiff arrows.  I think .400s especially on the super skinny stuff would work great.

Thanks for the heads up Brad. I have a test kit of wood shafts that's almost done, 50-55 up to 60-65 just had the axis laying around and needed arrows for league!

Plus I like carbons for stumping, jb weld the inserts and they get pretty dang tough

I shoot AD Traditionals with 250 grn up front, out of my 64", 50 @ 28" Whip.
They fly true, really like them a lot.

Hey Burnside, do you use the heavies or lites?

I have a 50 lb and 42 lb whip.  I have found that both of mine want very weak arrows.  600 spine w between 145 and 200 up front.  Arrows uncut.  500s were waaaay too stiff.  My cousin uses 600s w his 50 lb.

The heavies (standards).  Not Lites or Hammerheads.

This was my experience as well.

I have had two whips and both liked weak arrows.

I shot 30" .600s with 145 grain points and 28.5" 600s with 275 grains up front.  Both flew and tuned well with my 46lb whip.  My 50lbr shot 1916s at 29 with 145 grain point perfectly.
