Turkey Question
«
on:

I want to go turkey hunting. Been reading and trying to get set up and have a question. The areas I am trying to find a place to hunt seems to have Rios and Merriam's. Shopping for decoys and don't know if it is wise to buy Merriam's or Rio decoys. Will it make a difference to the birds?

I've had luck with generic turkey decoys, such as the funky chicken jake or an unbranded foam hen. I don't think these decoys are sub-species specific.

The turkeys won't care.

If you are going on public, I highly recommend getting some Avian X hens and a Funky Chicken Jake

I have been using the Avian X hen and jake the last couple years and they are outstanding. If you watch Cabelas bargain cave you can buy the pair for just over $100 saving quite a bit off retail. Don't be shy about offering them less than they have them marked down for. They are in the bargain cave as a return, so they want to get rid of it.
