Test kit ???
« on: February 02, 2016, 11:30:00 AM »
Do I cut the arrows the length I want to shoot, and tune with tip weight?  Or. Should I choose a tip weight and cut the arrows to tune to that tip weight?

Thanks

I like to cut to length and use tip weight.  Having a longish draw doesn't give me much latitude in cutting so I cut everything at 30" and work from there.

I find it easier to cut length as I tune. I usually know what broadhead I want to use. I also found that when I tried to tune with tip weight, it took a lot of weight off the front to stiffen the arrow.

I don't like to do any cutting until I see where I am with various point weights. Of course I only draw a hair over 28", so I have a lot of length to play with. I've found that carbons react much more to length difference than to point weight. I have to vary the point weight at least 50gr or more to equal 1/4" of length.

I leave my test kit full length.
Choose the head weight I want.
Stick the points on a few test kit arrows.
See which spine shoots the best..ie..slightly weak.
Buy shafts matching the chosen test kit shaft.

put the test kit away till next time.

Trim/tune the new shafts.

I also keep track of what spine of arrows I already have made up for other bows. I often use those as a "proof test" for which spine to buy as well.

LOoks like t he adult diapers: depends!

On whether you have standard or long draw.

I tend toward 28.5" draw and like 1" overhang, so go with what point weight I WANT and then tun by cutting from rear...but if I had longer arms...
