Which Black Widow?
«
on:
October 18, 2007, 11:36:00 AM »
I've suddenly gotten the urge to buy a BW. Not a new one, mind you, but a nice used mid 90's model to newer. Which model TD recurve BW do you all recommend?
I'm a 27" draw, 3 under, instinctive shooter (no conscious aiming system) mostly out of treestands.
Thanks,
Geoff

I really like my SAIII. I bought it new in '99 and it has been my goto bow ever since.

PSAII, PSAIII or PSAV (I like the bamboo in the PSAV) 56 or 58". Both grips are good, but I like the Asbell best. Now if you can find one matching those specs, consider yourself lucky.

The PSA's are my favorites...but I've really never met a BW that I didn't like.

SA, MA, PTF you'll like any of them. I bought a TF 11 in 02 and it took a few days to get use to, but i took my best buck yet with a recurve with that bow. Man, i wish i hadn't sold it.

I've got a PSA III 58" and 56@28. My draw is the same as yours at 27" and I as well shoot three under. I really like the short length as I hunt from stand as well. It's a true joy. I got mine used from the big bid site for $500.
Good luck and enjoy

Love my PSA3 it is 54#@28 and 60" I have taken a Whitetail buck and a Caribou with it since I first got it in 2005. I could have shot a few more deer last year but passed them up. Click on the thumbnail for a bigger pix.
I had mine built with bamboo limbs and the boo is inlaid in the handle in lieu of the white stripe. Oh and those antler knobs were made by Frank "Stickshooter".

Any of the PSA's will do you fine. IF you go with the PSAV or a PSAX you will get the benefit of bamboo limbs/cores. I feel you get a little nicer bow when you have the bamboo. That being said, all of them are nice!
I just got a PSAX Zebrawood 60" 52@27" today! I also have a PGA 50@27". Love them both.

I would not buy any of their T/Ds after shooting their TF, they perform better than all the others and are quieter as well. I have owned several and the TF is th eway to go. Shawn

I now have my third, and working on getting my forth. I have been a black widow shooter since 2000. I just hate that fact that it took me so long to get one.

You can't go wrong with Black Widow. I owne several and enjoy them all. I have shot MANY other recurves and longbows and would put the BW up against any other recurve or longbow in smoothness, performance, looks, and value. My favorite is the PTF and PSA.
Black Widow Model style length pounds
SAll recurve 60" 67lbs
SAlll recurve 58" 60lbs
PSAlll recurve 60" 56lbs
MAll recurve 62" 57lbs
MAll recurve 60" 54lbs
PGA recurve 60" 55lbs
PTFV recurve 60" 63lbs
PLV recurve 62" 64lbs
MAV recurve 60" 49lbs

If you like short ones, look at the PSR.

My opinion you cannot go wrong with a widow. Check the widow wall for used bows or that big bid site.
The PSA's are superb bows esp. if you will travel. My PGA is one of the best performing recurve bows I have ever owned.
I can't seem to quit thinking about ordering a TD PL lately...LOL
