Wing Thunderbird

Recently I got 2 Wing Thunderbird bows.  Their risers are so much different in size.  Is that normal?

I find that to be true with a lot of factory produced bows.  It all depends on the particular craftsman on the production line who did the grip work.  I have found the same on two Bear Super Kodiaks I own.  One made in 2014 and the other in 2015.  Very different feel between the two. I like both....just different.

I remember seeing these bows in my local retail store (Mr. Wiggs) when I was in my late teens. I loved them but at nearly $100 I couldn't  fathom owning one. That was in my RH days. Now I'm a lefty.

Wonderful bows, they may have slightly changed design thru the years, which could explain the size differences in risers.

I have a Bob Lee falcon, it's riser is not as deflexed the Thunderbirds. I bet those thunderbirds shoot nice.

The Thunderbirds I've owed have varied in size also. The larger ones have always been the heavier weight bows though. My #61 and #70 had the larger sight window/grip area in the riser, while the #50-#54 pound had a smaller area. I thought Wing had just beefed them up for the extra stress the heavier limbs produced. I see yours are only #45 and #47 so that blows that theory unless the factory had intended the #47 to be a heavier bow then changed their mind.

I wander like Ksbowman said if the factory meant to build the larger one in a heavier weight and miss it alot and didn't wanna spend tell time reducing the size. Because normally someone wouldn't have the same bow in almost the same weight. Or one couldve been built right about the time they modified them.

I think those are the same year...1967.  Try posting on the trad history and collecting forum.  Kelly may have insight.

Guess I should have put my glasses on! I read 45 & 47 now you know, I wear contacts and it still takes glasses to read print!
