A couple of weeks ago had a trailer, a Ranger stolen from my barn.  What kills me is that they all of my hunting gear was stolen as well.  So I guess my question is if you were going to start over with hunting clothes and backpack... what would you choose.  I hate thieves.

I guess it depends on where you do your hunting.  I see your from down south so it shouldn't require to much outer wear to get set up enough  to hunt unless you go farther north.

Thieves are such a pain in the a$$.

The stuff they took was pretty nice under armor scent blocker type things.  I was considering some wool but here it is pretty warm.

I'm confused. Apparently you've hunted before with what sounds like some quality gear. UA, Scent Blocker. Don't know why you want our advice. I could see asking if you had never hunted before. Still don't know what you like?

If it was me and I had any insurance money coming in off of the loss, I would consider the Sitka line of clothing.

I bought some of the First Lite wool for the next to skin layer and have been impressed with it.

I also have some wool but fine it too hot at times and also not windproof.  I think the FL combined with some good technical outerwear is better for our warmer and more humid climate.

At least that would be my direction if the money was there.

I appreciate you insight and that is exactly what is was inquiring about.  I have never owned wool but read a lot about it here. Just not sure how practical it is in this region. No insurance money to me as the deductible is greater that the value of the trailer and the Ranger was my son in law's.

If you are on a budget, like most of us are, and if you have a Bass Pro around, I found a nice lined, wind barrier Fleece pants and jacket on sale that I wear here in South Florida when I get a chance to hog hunt.

I have so much stuff accumulated over the years but don't need wool when I am here.

Wisconsin is another story.

I used to get all worked up about scent control clothing, thinking I needed that expensive stuff.

Then I read the dog snifffing tests done by Field and Stream Magazine.

None of it, nor bathing, nor the sprays slowed down the dogs nose...the ionizer unit slowed him a little...maybe enough for you to draw your bow, they said.

IMHO you don't need to buy it, but you do need to play the wind.

If you have the bucks, the Sitka stuff is really nice, I hear, and First Lite is really good too.

Both top quality.

Lastly...even Florida chills me when I sit motionless on stand and the sun sinks, so I tend to layer up even here.

Hope you find what you like on sale.

I heard that Academy Sports runs some really good sales too after season...which is probably about now, hopefully.

I live in Tx, and while we don't get really cold most times, I absolutely love my First Lite stuff. I only have the merino wool pulloovers, vests, and sweaters, but they are awesome. When it is cold I can layer up with this stuff and not be too bulked up to still shoot!

If I had to start over again I'd probably go with a full outfit from First Lite. I'm a huge proponent of Merino wool because it's super comfortable, is naturally anti microbial so you don't stink and it wicks away moisture from your body.

Another vote for First Lite merino wool from me. I hunted for a week straight in our September bear season (32*-75*+, actually had heavy frost one morning). Of course a little extra layering was needed on the cold mornings, but the wool handles everything, except wind, nicely. The ASAT pattern is great, and the Fusion pattern looks like it will work good as well. It is by far the most comfortable clothing I own. I wish I would have made the investment sooner!

Ive switched to almost all first lite wool. Its light enough for sept- november for me here in AR. When it gets chilly i use cabelas wooltimate pants and vest.

My wife got me a pair of first lite kanab 2.0 pants for my birthday last fall. Awesome, awesome gear!  I will certainly buy more first lite gear.  I like Icebreaker for a base layer.
