new shaft option for long draw guys
« on: February 16, 2016, 04:35:00 PM »
Sorry if I'm double posting old news, but I certainly didn't know about this before today.

Steve at Simply Traditional sold me some Black Eagle "Vintage" shafts recently, and I just finished my first test arrow today. When I dropped it in the quiver it was an inch and a half longer than my other arrows. The shaft material alone measures 34" without a nock installed! I checked with the manufacturer and confirmed it wasn't a mistake, these really are 34" when ordered as full-length.    Not a bad looking arrow to boot.

I know I've read some posts by guys who draw a bit longer than myself so I thought I better post this here in case anyone is searching for options in the future.

Saw those myself. I like the idea of a wood grain shaft with such tight tolerances. Most 400 and 500 spine shafts are just too short to shoot with broadheads. Maybe it's time for me to order some. They are not crazy heavy either so you can load up the front for decent foc.

Those look good, and if the spine is as tight as the weight and straightness, they should perform awesomely!

and "Hot Melt is NOT recommended for use with Black Eagle Arrow shafts."     :dunno:

Price looks to be $100/dozen

I gotta admit, I've been doing black shafts to up my FOC for a few years, but this doesn't seem to be too much of a compromise.

Bisch,I've been shooting the "bargain cave" level called Outlaws for a few years and they are far better than I can shoot. I can't imagine these aren't at least twice as good.

The price for .003 straightness is $100, I got the .001 because they were in stock that day and they are $120. Still less than I was paying for my old shafts (although quite a bit more than my old Outlaws.)

I've got no idea what that hot melt thing is about, I JB Weld everything but wood shafts.

Carbon shafts is a crowded market, and I really don't care much who's name is on mine aside from the price I pay. I only thought this was post worthy given their uncut length.

I don't know this for fact, but i think just about every carbon mfgr recommends to not use hot melt, or anything else that applies heat to the carbon. I use Big Jim's hot melt in every carbon I put together. You just have to use common sense and not apply too much heat.

The MAP Pricing for the Black Eagle Vintage Shafts is $100 for the .003 tolerance shafts and $120 for .001 tolerance shafts.

For Trad Gang members I will take $5 of the price of a dozen of either. (I wish I could do more but not much margin.)

You can order by sending me a PM to take advantage of the $5 discount. I have most spines in stock in 003 version but with Black Eagle only 30 minutes from my house I can usually have them in 48 hours, sometimes less.

All carbon manufacturers state that due to the effects heat has on Carbon. That said, I have used hot melt on a lot of carbon shafts without issue but recently I have decided to make my point connections permanent with JB Weld. Tired of points coming off in targets and bone.

I bought some Black Eagle Vintage arrows this week at a local archery shop.   They were hand crested (i.e. not a wrap but paint) and fletched and really good looking.   The wood grain finish seems to be pretty tough.  The crested/fletched arrows were about $70 per 6. So far, I like them and really like the convenience of being able to buy fully-made arrows.   I just had to cut them and install the inserts.
