Nock Height Higher than 5/8....Unusual or No?

Hey all,

I am experimenting with my Morrison ILF riser and SHORT ILF limbs. I had it set up to shoot with a NAP Centerrest and thought I'd try it off the shelf to see how that was. Off of the rest it was a bit too loud and I had another thread about advice to get it quieter.

Well today I raised the brace height to 8 inches and it was much quieter. Then I decided to try the shelf instead of the rest. I used the fluffy VELCRO to make a "rest" so it would be quiet. Then I used one of the 1/4 inch thick furniture pads on the side. I started at 3/4 and had terrible arrow flight and I moved up without my square so I wouldn't be watching the numbers and instead go until I got the best arrow flight. Well I stopped as I saw beautiful arrow flight and then measured it. My jock height is HIGHER than 5/8!  I guess it would be closer to 3/4 right now.

What I am wondering is how unusual this is. Do any of you have your nock heights at above 5/8ths?

Do you think I need to go back and start over with the off the shelf shooting and change brace height and nock height and start shooting again and see where I end up?

Leave it alone?

Am assuming you are shooting three under.

One of my best ever tuned bows shot best near 3/4's.

If the arrow is well tuned and marking where you are comfortahle, then you should be golden.

Note: Adjusting tiller may impact nock position. I personally have a side view pic taken, at full draw, shooting at a near level target. Copy pic into PowerPoint, then draw a straight vertical line to verify that the the top and bottom limbs are aligned.

I shoot three under. I've had a few recurves set as high as 7/8. TonyZ

Yeah I forgot to add that, I shoot 3-under.

Arrows shooting just where I am looking, flying great. I was just wondering if a nock point that high is weird or strange.

Nock point height will change depending on tiller you set on the ILF. Usually set mine at 0 for three under and 5/8" nock point is the norm. If she is shooting well for you record brace height, tiller, nock point, limb bolt position, center shot amount, arrow info for future reference.

Not unusual for me. Every bow I have is 5/8-3/4.

I shoot split finger, off the shelf, and my bows are tillered even (like most would think would be for 3-under).

3/4 is not at all uncommon for a three under shooter.  Tiller affects it, of course, but you're definitely in the ballpark.  If it works, don't worry about it.

I'm with Orion, the bow won't lie to you. She likes what she likes. I shoot 3 under and most of my bows tune out between 5/8 and 3/4.

That pretty much sums up my range.  Is it higher than most?  Perhaps, but who cares! And I have to believe it's more personal form than equipment related because that range has held true across a multitude of bows, long bows, recurves, of varying poundages, lengths , tillers....you get the picture.

I'm the same. I shoot 3-under. All my bows have been 5/8 or 3/4". I've never had one more or less.

I know a recurve guy whose nock-point is just over 1" high.  And he's a very good shooter!  Many shoot 5/8 and 3/4.

Shoot what works and don't worry about it being "usual" or "unusual."

Sometimes arrows aren't tuned just right and raising nock  point will allow the arrow to be kinda force-tuned to the bow/style. Arrow point weight, finger position, style, arrow spine...etc can all affect your nock point.

My Bear grizzly I had took 3/4" and that shooting split. Couldn't figure out why until I put a feather rest on it. Which dropped the nock point down. The reason being was the shelf was flat and no matter where I had the nock point the arrow would bounce off the shelf.

No, most are 3/16 - 3/8. Almost never higher and I like a low string height. Shoot of the shelf cut low aka Fred Bear; heavy vinyl electrical tape for rest and built out. Dacron String, Bear TD.
