New riser battle of the woods
«
on:

Close to build time on a new recurve and have narrowed everything down to two riser options, both with yew over bamboo limbs:
1- light cocobolo (orangish background) and ziricote half moon devided by light accent lines or strips.
2- same cocobolo with an osage half moon devided by alternated contrasting cocobolo and light strips.
I'm having a hard time deciding so please weigh in regarding best choice considering an almost purely aesthetic point of view or any other recommendation for limb veneers.
Cheers and thanks!

Ziricote has a dark, charcoal color that I think goes well with Cocobola, picking up the darker grain in the coco. Osage turns more brown as it ages. Not as complementary I think, but color taste is a very personal thing. Go with what you think you will like.

I do not know if this pic will make your choice any easier but here is an example of Cocobollo and Osage.

Sorry I do not have an example of Cocobollo and Zercote. That combo would make one dark riser. I'm sure it would look fine it would just be dark.

instead of osage which darkens with age how about using something like canarywood instead?

Well I'm going against the crowd. If you can get two really different Cocobola pieces in that riser I would say do that. In the same manner, if you can get two different looking pieces of Ziricote that too would look great. If you choose the same wood in the riser, the separating laminations are pretty important to show the separation but not too much.
In my mind a Cocobola riser with Yew is sweet! The same would be true with Ziricote. Do not forget the value of some same riser wood overlays on the tips and grip area.
Two different woods in the riser may take away from the simple beauty of the Yew.....just my opinion.
Sounds a winning bow order coming up!

I like coco and bocote combo better. Not crazy about a dark deep brown wood like ziricote with a red wood like coco. My vote for what you have listed is COCO and Osage
