Pack Recommendations

Saw your post about kifaru tents, might as well do a kifaru pack as well?

Seriously though want a new pack myself and gonna drop change for a kifaru. Duplex frame with some sort of bag? Not sure which one yet. just want one that compresses down really well like the mountain warrior.
If I use it around here camping and hunting I could stuff a whole NC deer in the thing and carry it out!

Kifaru is great, I have an older Longhunter that I'm very happy with.  On a budget the surplus Marine Corp. ILBE is a heck of a lot of pack for the money.  The ILBE comes a little heavy but a little time with a sharp knife and you can remove a lot of molle weight.

I like the Stone Glacier packs. They are light weight and tough. Might check them out.

I had a longhunter but could never get it to ride right on my hips and it kept slipping. I like the looks of the argali on a light frame.  I hope to get some more information over the next couple of weeks.

Seekoutside packs are good to. Light weight serious load haulers, the belt does not slip. I put a kuiu bag on mine.

I like my outdoorsmans optics hunter.  Well made, adjusts easily, packs down tight for hauling smaller loads and strips to the frame in seconds. USA made too!

I will second the IBLE, it is the best value I have found.  That said, both the Stone Glacier and KUIU are really good.  I use use the KUIU's, my hunting partner has opted for the Stone Glacier.  Maybe it is just me, and it has been several years, but I didn't care for the Kifaru.

Exomountain gear has a nice pack I've been using for two years.  Very comfortable and extremely light.

Kelty still makes some good external packs or you can find some used ones. Price is reasonable too and they've been around a long time.

Check out Horn Hunter packs. I use the modular Full Curl System that consists of the frame, main pack bag and day pack. When I backpack in and reach my camp I remove the main pack and just use the frame and day pack for my day hunts. It carries all of the gear I need for the day yet still has the ability to pack out an elk quarter on the pack frame. It works well for my yearly 10 day elk hunting pack trips into a Colorado wilderness area. I also like the camo patterns available with these packs.

Thanks fisherick. I thought if the OP had specific criteria as I did (elbow clearance while back country skiing and climbing-light mountaineering)) the DIY option might be a good one. I've been very happy with my pack.

I bought a kuiu last year and like it a lot. It's capacity is more than mine and is a lot more comfortable than my old Kelly pack.

This may not be the lightest pack but the Eberlestock Warhammer or Dragonfly. I have a Warhammer also a G1 Little Brother and Duffel that both zip into it.
