I want to ship a bow(canada)?
«

I just got off the phone with Purolator and I must say that the "gentleman" that I spoke with was about as helpful as a toothache.I was told that they do not ship armory?.I've worked in three different pro shops in past years and have singed for many shipments that containd compound and trad bows. When I asked if I could use the same sized tube to ship a flyrod as I was going to use to ship a 66" long bow ,there was problem.
Since when has a longbow become such a danger that it can't be shipped? If you were to asked any of the critters that I hunt if a longbow is dangerous(at lest the ones I carry)they would die laughing,or of old age.
Anyway,My best friend is in Nova Scotia and due to a couple years worth of surgeries he has missed all off his hunting seasons and is very down right now.A few years ago he sold his compound bow because he thought that he could never bowhunt again.
Today as I talk to him on the phone he told me that he has been feeling better and dispite a recent surgery on his knee and another lost season he is hoping for the best for next year and would like to try traditional bowhunting.
I have a little Martin ML14 45#@28 hanging on the wall in my den and would like to send it down to him.So who do you guys use to ship your bows. Thanks for your help folks.

Hi Gary,,
I sent a longbow to Oshawa and a recurve to the Soo both through Canada Post, no problems around $25.00, 5 days and tracking as well as $900 worth of insurance.. I sent the longbow in a carpet tube, free from a flooring store, works great. Good luck,, Frank

Send it USPS. Don't send by courier, they charge us big time on duty at this end. I have received many bows from the US that came in the mail without a problem.Your local PO may give you grief about how long it is, but be firm. Canada Post DOES accept parcels that are 66 inches long and over.

Thanks Frank
I think I can do that brother.Keep me up on your deer season and look forward to seeing some pics if the Godess of the hunt should smile on you
.
I've learned alot this year baiting bears and I'm redoing the guest room this winter so maybe I could get you and the OBB to come up next year and help keep the population in check.
I would be pretty proud to see a bear hanging on your wall that I help with. For you and the OBB the invite is always there.
Take care

Thanks PatW
It's kinda funny how people act when you tell them it's a "weapon".It's only a stick and string till the right person is holding it.

Having recently shipped a 68" long bow to Alberta, I can tell you it can be done. Use United States Post Office (not any other shipper). No problems with it being a "traditional bow" as you claim on the customs tag.

I'll do everything in my power to make it happen Frank.I've seen lots of bears and at one point was 12 feet from a 175-200 pounder (on the ground)but as you well know it doesn't always fall in place. Now I know why Sergio loves to play with bears so much. They are dangerous but so much fun(just like women)and I mean that in a good way.
If you guys are going back for hogs again and are looking for guys let me know.
Getting back to bears it might be a little harder next year cause I think a lot of the younger bears just won't make it through the winter because lack of food and places to den(overpopulation). Also I believe many sows will abort this winter because they will not be fit to carry through the winter. It has been a hard year for them because much of there normal forage hasn't been here this year.
But on the bright side Frank I've got places were the bear tracks are 4"to5"pads and those bad boys will still be here next year.
