I have a Bear Kodiak Hunter that I want to set up for Bowfishing. What rest do you use with a wood riser bow. Shelf?

If you are shooting off the shelf leather works great. If you are going with a screw hole rest get one that has side supports or a "trough". If you just use a roller rest and can't your bow the arrow falls off. So you need side support for the arrow when canted. Id fist chwck thru the sponsors and see what rhey have and if cant find what your lookong for Check back water bowfishing as they have a ton of rest options

You can use the fuzzy portion of Velcro on the shelf.

No holes in the riser has to be a shelf or something I can build up that can be removed.

Fuzzy velcro or bear hair works fine.

You could probably find one of the old Bear 'weather' rests. It was a rubber arm and rubber side plate all in one. I've seen them on the big auction site or put a request in the classifieds here if you're a contributing member.

The bow I use has an thick old felt type pad. It was on it when I got the 50 plus year old bow. Its just starting to show wear now after 5 years of heavy use.
When I replace it, it will probably be something similar from one of our sponsors. with that said, I would also consider leather or in a pinch, the velcro.

What ever you decide to use I would shoot off the shelf and not a rest. You are shooting a pretty heavy, solid fiberglass arrow that will have a tendency to want to fall off an elevated rest in the excitement of the hunt.

Picked up some heavy Velcro based on recommendations and arrow flight seems to be pretty good after lowering the nock point some. Now for some Snakehead action in the Potomac River.

We use the fuzzy part of the Velcro, but what works really good is the cheap side plates that are a vinyl type material, the fiberglass arrows slide off that great!

I prefer Velcro rests for bow fishing. Water has little or no effect on it.
