Which one does he want?

I agree with McDave. If you don't care, and he has a preference, then the decision is easy. If he has no preference, then I would go with whichever he can shoot the best.

Well he can't decide so I told him I would ask around and figure out which the best is personally I hate the backwoods hunter it looks cheap sounds like plucking a banjo string when you shoot it and the pse isn't as noisey but it's a little heavy

I'd say neither, (hey, you asked for advise! Haha). If they both have drawbacks, sell them and buy something that would be perfect for him. Archery, like many things, has exspensive roads you can take. And sometimes when you look around it seems that its the ONLY road. But thats not the case. There are both new and used options out there that can be had for not much more than you'd get for those bows. Maddog, Samick, and Bear are examples. A used Bear Grizzly can be had for +/- $150, and they have been go-to bows for generations of archers and bowhunters. The reality is that starting with the right equipment can often make the difference in someone (especially younger folks) sticking with something and enjoying it.
If you're dead set on using one of the mentioned bows, I'd choose the Martin. Sand down the riser, shape the grip to fit him, stain and then seal it. There'll be a sense of ownership after that. Then adjust brace height and use wool puff silencers properly mounted, maybe 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom if shes really a noisey gal. Good luck!

My wife has cut off the archery budget we are a low income family that just moved up from pvc bows i got the backwoods hunter based on my martin Jaguar elite which I love. It's fast quiet and accurate. The only drawback on the elite is you have to use a rest cause the shelf is too deep so I just threw a whisker biscuit on it and it's great is anyone else familiar with the backwoods hunter there isn't much info available online any tips to make either of them better other than basic tuning

If like most sons, he will end up with both before too long.  That is the way it should be.

Yeah, that sounds familiar! haha. Well I did a search on here for "Martin" and looking at the threads about what they call the "Hunter" (not sure if this is the exact same bow?), it seems they have a great following and were very quality bows. I think I remember hearing something about Martin going out of business or catching fire or something a while back. Dig around using the search feature. I have no doubt that you can quiet that bow down and even refinish it for around $15.00 if you wanted. It seems like they're good bows.
