Elevated 3D shooting platform
«
on:

Our club which is North of Toronto Canada has decided to build a two level shooting platform as part of our 3D range. We are looking at a maximum height of 12 feet for the highest platform. The club has 50 acres of rolling woods with some good ravines. Does anyone have any pictures of platforms used at their clubs? Also any feedback would be appreciated in regards to suggested safety precautions that can be included into the build. Thanks in advance.

Don't make the stairs too steep.....I've been on some platforms that the steps are so steep that it can be tricky going up and down. In the early morning dew or after a rain it's extra tough.

what jcar said. Make sure the women and kids can get up/ down with no issues. Might get some of that stick on grit paper I have seen at big box store for the steps.
The range I use now has a real well built one but since the state took over it is not used. It can become an insurance risk s I was told.

Check with your insurance provider before you build one.

For safety sake always provides hand rails and post caution signs. Check with insurer for sure.

We had one built for our club and the county code said the railing had to be four feet high. Unfortunately this makes close shots almost impossible for vertically challenged shooters like myself. I asked them why did they put the stairs behind the platform since if they put them in the front we could have shot through the gap in the railing where the entrance was from the stairs.
