This morning I stepped out my back door just around daybreak to listen for any birds on the surrounding hills.  I gave a very loud crow call and immediately the hills erupted with gobbles.  For about 30 seconds there was literally not a second of silence as all the Toms sounded off.  I almost had to laugh.

That said, I've had the same response with an owl call, banging something loudly, the dog coming out and barking, etc.  I do like a crow call just because it's about the easiest to do loudly and it works.

Crow call as well, but second in line would be my car door sometimes!

Owl hooting with my voice. Seems in my hunting area the turkeys ignore crows for some reason.

My Merriam's ignore crows and owls.  I think the yotes and lions are teaching them to keep quiet.

They will gobble if gobbled at or to.loud clucks.

Owl or woodpecker. If you hit a crow call around here you'll be covered up with crows circling you in seconds

Owl hooter before they are off the roost and a crow call afterwards.

I'll tell ya another good locator is one of the compressed air horns.  Like the kind sold in the boating section of WalMart.

It even works on heavily pressured birds.

Crows and owls work fine but try a Canada goose call on pressured birds.  It is amazing.

I had a peacock call once that worked every time, till I lost it.  Response to crows is spotty, owl in the morning, but if my voice does not work a louder commercial call will.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
