Will Grayling Jig Do 4-Fletch??
« on: October 20, 2007, 04:13:00 PM »
Hey all,

Seeing and reading all these comments about what colors are working best for everyone made me think about possible trying the 4-Fletch setup.  I have never done it so who knows, it might be worth a try.
I have a Grayling fletching Jig I bought that has a RIGHT HELICAL clamp.  Does anyone know if my Grayling jig is capable of being set up to fletch arrows with 4-Fletch instead of the usual set up of 3?

Also what differences will I notice if I try 4 fletch instead of my usual 3?

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.

Yes, I am trying to remember how use a 3 fletch to install a 4 fletch, with out changing the indexer..

As I remember, Install the cock feather and rotate to the first hen feather and install it.  Remove the arrow and rotate the indexer back to the cock feather position. flip the arrow 180° and repeat.  At least I think thats how I remember..

Ok I found this on the web at The FoxFire site.

"The 60/120 degree 4 fletch alignment is done during fletching with the three fletch jig. Install two-hen feather and two cock feathers. The following instructions are for right-handed shooters. If you are left-handed, you will do the opposite for the hen feather position, only. First, put on the cock feather. Then rotate the nock indicator of your jig to the left (counter-clockwise) and install a hen feather. This is where if, you are left-handed, you will need to rotate the nock indicator of your jig right (clockwise). Now remove shaft from jig, rotate 180 degrees and return to jig. Put on another feather. Finally, turn the nock indicator back to the cock feather position and install another feather. Wholla"

I got one new, and it came with three or four indexers, and a straight clamp. Handles four fletching nicely with the straight clamp....dont know about with a helical... Could always try it and see...
