Split finger palm tab
« on: April 14, 2016, 07:11:00 PM »
Guys I have been shooting the complete opposite of how I started. I went from 3 under to split finger and experienced a tremendous improvement in accuracy. I then decided to find an old cheap split finger tab I had buried in the garage, and again accuracy improved over my gloves. What is the difference between a regular split finger and a palm split finger tab and can anyone post pictures.

Much appreciated,
Dan

I went from a regular tab to a palm tab about 7 years ago, love them will not be going back. I tried the black widow palm tab, just had to much angle for me. tried a couple of patterns and found I liked this one the best. It can be made with the separator or without. I use cordovan leather for the string area.

If you want the pattern I can send you a copy.

I am leaning toward Dan Tolke's tab kit, and making a wrist strap with paracord. Stickhorse I would love to see the pattern, and how did it help you over a regular tab?

Dan for me the regular tabs would slip a little down my fingers on release, with the strap on the wrist it never moved. I also have not lost one since I went to this style.LOL
If you want to PM me with your address I will send the pattern to you. also your tab size.

Bisch I need the same education. I usually make a wrist sling with paracord to keep my regular tab from slipping, but when a saw this it reminds me of the shape of some of the tabs Olympic shooters use to put your hand in the correct position. Wondering how easy it is to get in the correct position in a hunting situation and would love to see up close pics in a persons hand.

I have the black widow tab and love it plus I've made a couple. One for 2 finger split and one for 2 under. I like the palm tab because its always there but out of the way with the adjustable bungee chord. I use the finger separator which holds it in place when shooting more than preventing finger pinch. Trying to find some tough nylon like Rick B used on his.

I got your PM's guys will get the patterns out to you today.
Was going to go chase turkeys, but we have 8" of the partly cloudy stuff and still coming down.
As for how this tab works for me:
I found it does help me from tilting my hand up & down, which changes the angle of my elbow & pressure on the upper & lower fingers. This gives me a more consistent anchor point.
BenBow is right on with the finger separator, just hold it in place & ease of use.
The use in a hunting situation is great, as it leaves you full use of your hand & fingers. Ready to use just tip your wrist down and it falls right in your palm.

Blessed One: will get you a pick of how it looks in the hand.
BenBow. will get you a address for the nylon backing I use on my thin tabs, also use a thin rubber material which works well for those hot sweaty days.
this is the back of the rubber backing tab.

For those asking what the palm tab is for...The palm tab is strapped around your wrist (I strap it around my hand. When not needed, it just hangs there out of the way and you can use your fingers and hand for whatever.
When you get ready to shoot a quick flip of the hand will put it right into position in you palm and you are ready to go. You just adjust the strap so that it falls right in place when you flip your wrist.
I use the finger spacer. You don't have to look at it when you flip your wrist or use your other hand to twist a tab around.
I have been using them since NEET made them. When they quit I used one to make a pattern and have made a couple for me.  Just recently found out that BW was selling them.

By the way, the reason I strap it tighter around my hand now is because I have had a couple fall off of my wrist out in the woods and never found them.

I too have shot the palm tab since need was making them (18 yrs or so).  I love them because here in canyon country, you can use both hands for climbing…AND…you can shoot them while wearing gloves.  On cold days, this is invaluable.
