Thanks Bernie. No, I was hunting with my cousin Frank near Clarksville. My ten year-old granddaughter killed one at my place with her wheelie bow on Sunday, and her dad is going to hunt there this weekend, but I haven't had a chance to hunt my own ground yet. Still have another tag though, so I might take one there too.

Last night my wife and I enjoyed some crock pot wild turkey breast smothered in a home canned tomatoes, peppers and onion mix she makes. It was tender and delicious! It's also the only wild game I can get her to eat, lol!

Thanks guys. It was a fun, but very short hunt. It normally takes me days to get a shot, sometimes I don't. Turkeys have always kind of been my nemesis.

Nerves got me I guess.
I understand the nerves thing. A few years ago I had five jakes come it and I shot right over the biggest one's back...twice! I guess he hung around because he couldn't believe I could miss that badly, so I had to prove it to him again before he took off!    :knothead:

The place Frank and I hunt is best in the morning, so we usually try to get into the blind before daylight. Hunting at my acreage is a late morning or afternoon affair though, which is great if you like to sleep in.

Keep after them. I'm sure you'll connect pretty soon. How's your dad getting along by the way?

A great start to turkey season for sure ! First on Saturday I had the GREAT pleasure of setting with my 13 year old granddaughter Allie as she harvested her very first turkey ; then on Monday setting next to Russ as he harvested a fine tom . I didn't think he was ever going to shoot ; waited until the bugger beat the snot out of my jake decoy ; then had to let him walk off a little to get the shot . I was more excited waiting and watching these two then if I had been shooting myself . Now it's my time ! I have been hunting this block sense the early 70's even before there where turkey's present . Some time in the 80's they stocked 2 tom's and 5 hen's if I remember correctly . They have done very well and have a some what large healthy flock . good hunting
