Hoyt VS. Tall Tines
« on: April 26, 2016, 09:20:00 PM »
So I have a tall tines recurve that I shoot well and love!  However the bow is a 55lb bow and is hurting my elbows.  I will say this bow is so smooth I have shot mid 40lb bows that hurt my elbows as bad.  I guess the point I'm making is this 55lb'er is as smooth as some 45lb'er I've owned and shot.  So in my mind it would make sense to let this one go and talk to brian about a new low 40lb bow at my dl.  In my mind the low 40lb'er from brian would have to be silky smooth and easy on my aching elbows. This brings me to the next part of my question how many of you guys have shot the Hoyt and Tall Tines and how do they compare. If I knew the buffalo was as smooth as the tall tines I would possibly go that route due to the ease of adding accessories and I don't feel as bad throwing down a buffalo when I'm using it for bow fishing as I would the tall tines.  Can any of you that have owned both or shot both chime In with a little guidence?

I'm a tall tines guy and have never pulled a bow that breaks over like a tall tines. Almost like a let off. This seems like a apples to persimmon comparison. I would definitely go with the lighter Tall Tines or new lighter limbs.

It sounds like you need a phenolic riser TallTines! I have shot both.. No comparison if you want the smooth trad feel, and performance. Hoyt is a factory manufactured bow and I personally like knowing what I am getting and who I am getting it from. Just my opinion but I'm a Wessel customer ever since I received my stickflinger.

I have owned several Buffaloes and several TTs. If possible it would be best for you to shoot both and see what fits you the best. Like the post above the TT is definitely my pick of the two. Have fun deciding.

Spent an afternoon trying a buffalo at the local shop and even though I wanted to like it I couldn't. Probably spoiled by my assortment of TT's...

Order another set of Tall Tines limbs and sell the 55# limbs.

I've never shot the buffalo, but I shot a Hoyt Dorado for several years.

It was fine, but compared to my new PCH, my Dorado sounds like a wooden cymbal.

I have both, I am a TT fan all the way. The Hoyt was 4 lbs heavier than market and that is typical for those factory made BW's, they aren't the Weight as marked. The Hoyt felt ok until I drew a tall tines, then I knew the TT was my preference.

I've only had a Hoyt Gamemaster, but there is NO way I would take any Hoyt over a TT.  I'd order some lighter limbs for the TT no doubt.

i have shot them both, the buffalo is a fine bow,and quiet with some work.you can add a stab or that bow fishing reel. and it looks more like a work horse. but the metal riser sucks in the cold winter. I spent a few days shooting my friends TT was a beauty and shot wonderfully. i would feel it   a sin to bow fish with his rig though.try to shoot them both is my only real response.

I would see a doctor about my elbows...and see the form clock on the shooters forum.

Thanks to all who replied.  Everyone kind of confirmed what I was thinking, I will admit I was leaning toward the buffalo due to its "work horse" appeal.  Again thanks to all and if anyone else has more to add please feel free.  Thanks again!

I am absolutely with Terry on this one!!  See a Dr AND check your form and execution.  IF you are shooting correctly, there should be NO elbow pain,in either elbow -- baring previous injury.

Thanks guys! I won't disagree with the form I will definitely look into that!  However I've had the pain for sometime now.  Long before I took up trad.  I like to blame my previous job.  Packing drywall, concrete block, and shingles at a local lumber supply company that believed in manual labor took its toll on my elbows and knees.  Fast forward several years, now life as a safety coordinator is much better and I cringe at the thought of packing a truck load of drywall again. Thanks again guys!  I will definitely be reading the form clock again.
