Glad I went last year.  Price of an elk tag in some states.  But I gotta say the hunting was awesome!

We have plenty of good whitetails around here, not by KS standards for sure, but a few P&Y are around. I would put that kind of money towards an elk or mule deer hunt in CO, ID, or WY.

No way I would pay that much for a deer tag. I have plenty of deer on our property in NC even if they aren't up to KS standards and I have a Lifetime license for NC. If I pay that kind of money, I am going to hunt something that I can't hunt by just walking out the back door.

New York is a $100 for non-residents, $10 more to get a doe tag.

The deer population where I hunt in Kansas was definitely hit hard by diseases.  Pheasant population has been down for years.  Quail have come back some.  The turkey and coyotes are thriving.

The whole eastern side of Kansas was hit hard by EHD for those couple of seasons. It's always here, it's always been here it never goes away and some die from it every year just some years are worse then others (drought). We found a lot just like everbody else but why everybody thinks it killed just the big bucks is beyond me, I can tell know difference in that.

If your numbers are down maybe it's because the state opened up the crossbow, wide open 4 months for does and  3 months for bucks and has sold out every single nonresident tag since. Five year old kids are hunting with them and everybody else can draw a tag easy as pie now here in KS just got to pay that big price for it.

That's why the state dropped the fall turkey tags from 4 to 1 because of crossbows. I called them for a explanation the said there selling so many nonresident and so many resident are going to them that they are worried about the numbers dropping. What about the deer??? No answer     :dunno:   it's called money.

Anyway, good luck this fall hope you have a good hunt!

Hmmmm. We residents fund the cost for the State to manage deer and turkey in the first place, then get our tag numbers dropped because of high number non resident tags. I love the way this State takes premium care of its residents.....

I haven't seen the great bucks here for several years since the hunting shows started saying there was a monster around every tree and EHD hit so hard after the severe drought a couple years ago.

Congrats on drawing the tag Michael.  Can't wait to have you up to hunt on my families places this year. It pays to have friends, even if we are of questionable character! We did get hit by EHD a few years ago but the bucks we have seen and the couple that we have taken are of really good quality. Not a giant behind every tree but you will see at least one B&C class buck. I am going to start running trail cameras here in a month or so. You will have to come up and walk some of the other properties with me.
