Ghillie suit VS leafy suit
« on: May 15, 2016, 11:48:00 AM »
I was invited to go on a turkey hunt a few weeks ago with my friend Sam, He let me borrow his leafy suit.Even tho I didn't get to see a turkey let alone get a shot it got me thinking. Now I have never used either before but I felt quite concealed, I have an Avery Fastbreak ground blind that I have used for yrs, it is about 2.5ft tall and 12ft long with fiberglass stakes to push in the ground. I can pretty much surround myself on three sides with this setup. So long story short I was thinking about taking the shot and in the leafy suit it didn't appear that I needed to worry about my string getting caught in it. The Ghillie I am not so sure of. For all of you that use a Ghillie suit, should I worry about string interference? Keep in mind that I know about and have used my arm guard and rubberbands in the past, but the Ghillie has long strands full length of your arm and I don't want any interference. I think I am going to buy one or the other, just haven't decided which would be less troublesome. One of the things that comes to mind is to maybe shorten the material along just my left arm to eliminate string interference, what do you all think?

Trim the arm and chest of your Rancho Safari long coat and you will not have a problem. I prefer the long coat over the two piece suit. The big difference in the RS Guille and the leafy suit is weight. I have both and use the leafy in warmer weather, but prefer the Guille long coat.

I have the rancho short coat. I ended up cutting the bow arm off just because I wanted to be sure I didn't snag it. Before it was trimmed down more like a leafy suit and probably would have been fine. Pretty sure I read that tip on here

or buy a large brown sock or stocking and use it as a full length armguard. All the suggestions work...the brown sock is your bow arm and would simulate a branch..bow arm does not move anyway,...

I like my RS longcoat.  In it, I am hidden.  I also like the hangie downies by leaving stuff on the outside of the bow arm, I think it helps create a bush like appearance as well as covering up a teeny bit of drawing movement.  I do, however, completely trim away all the stuff on the inside of the bow arm... gone.

I have a RS longcoat as well. I just trimmed the bow arm on the inside and the chest area and have no issues. If it bothers you to much though just cut the bow arm off. It won't affect the camo.
