Pork Chop Eve
« on: May 18, 2016, 03:31:00 PM »
I am Headed to Big Oak Bowhunting with Marty Thomas for 2 days of Hog hunting. I am going with my son and 2 friends Bobby and Larry. This morning as I was pulling a last few items together the spirit of a renaissance man came over me and I wrote a poem for the occasion. Hope you enjoy   :knothead:

Pork Chop Eve(to the rhythm  of twas the night before Christmas)

With all my gear packed away and ready for the truck, I knew this trip was blessed, so we wouldn't need luck.

I thought of the plan and where we would stay, my heart was pounding cause there is just one more day.

I laid down my head and tried to sleep, my eyes grew weary as I pulled up the sheets.

I dreamed of Porkey walking out in the field, and I drew my bow as it felt so real.

I drooled in my sleep when porkey let out a squeal, and knew that the arrow had sealed the deal!

I now dreamed of my knife, as porky hung from the gable, and watched Bobby clean as Larry held him stable.

I dream of smoking porky sitting under a willow, and suddenly awoke I was eating my pillow!

With my 2 friends and my son what a trip this will be, have a wonderful night on this pork chop eve.

I will keep the day job!

Well it really was pork Chop Thursday. Had a great time with my son with Marty Thomas(Buff) at Big Oak Bowhunting. This little guy had a shield that was more than an inch thick. First shot was high and the follow up shot looked good but did not get the kind of penetration I was hoping for. I did recover the animal with Marty's help, and started over this week and for the first time baresafted my arrows and realized they were too stiff   :knothead:  thats why my FP and broadheads would not hit together and my accuracy was has been struggling. I was shooting the grizzly instinct out of a #65 whip. It was a great time great food, and overall just a wonderful experience with my son and 2 friends. we had hogs taken with a Longbow, compound, and crossbow. We covered the History of archery. It was amazing to meet Marty, and the guy is a living legend in my book with all he has accomplished with his Black Widow. I felt like I was eating breakfast and Dinner at Bass pro.
