I don't usually show the sticks and canes that I make , but this one I just have to share with all the gang .

that's a good one. I also make them .Mostly out of Yucca that I get out west in the winter months but Sassafras is another favorite. Let me know if you make it to our Grayling MTB shoot and I will bring you a couple of Yucca stalks to work and have.

This is Blue Beech , also called muscle wood . Another name for it is Hornbeam .
Don't know why it has so many names but it has the most amazing character .
It's also harder than woodpeckers lips . I have seen self Bows made with it and they are awesome looking too .

I recognize the name Hornbeam. I never realized though, that it was hard or with that kind of character.

It is also called ironwood and it makes a real nice self bow. I have made one bow out of it. Cut it with a chainsaw  when it is dead and you will see why it is called ironwood.

Neat stick.......I carve a few walking sticks also, that Blue beech make a strong and long lasting staff.

It is generally called Ironwood where I'm from. Looks like a miniature Beech tree if it the same as what I'm referring to.
