I'm embarrassed to ask
« on: June 23, 2016, 12:22:00 PM »
Well here goes .
2117 aluminum arrows are 70-75# spine .
I can't remember what 2216 aluminum's are .
I'm thinking either 75-80# or 80-85# .
My old K-Mag likes the 2216's and I'm wanting to make some woods for it .
Sense 1973 I have only shot aluminum .
So have a good laugh on me , but I have no charts and can't find on the Internet .
Yeah , I could ask Surewood , but when I feel this stupid , I deserve to share it .

This table was just in an earlier TG thread " starting point for woodies."

I think this table has what you are looking for and should help get you close.

good luck.

Back in the day I shot 29" 2216  XX75s out of my 72 lb recurve. I love the old aluminum shafts.

On a spine tester with 26" AMO spread, 2117 spine 77# and a 2216 is 84#  and that agrees with what Stu Millers calculator says they should be.

I thought aluminum and carbon were to be spine tested at 28" while only wood is 26".

Anyone?

Your right Lon, they are. Generally when you talk pounds though it is usually 26" while 28" measurements are usually in deflection. 2117 = .407, 2216 = .376 pounds at 28"...I dunno..

The carbon spine tester at 28" uses a 1.94# weight. The wood arrow spine tester at 26" uses a 2# weight. They are both measuring the same thing, just in different versions (pounds vs inches of deflection).

What weight is your old K mag at 28 " ?? If it shoots 2216's well then it would most likely like 75-80 or 80-85 I'm sure. I shot many 55# bows that 2018's worked well but 2117 and 2216's were a tad stiff. Those bows shot 70-75 woodies very well ...  my draw is 28

Thanks elkken , that's the answer I've been looking for .
Looks like 80-85# , I have tried 70-75 and they are to light . My 85-90s are way heavy .
So I guess it's time to order some Surewood .
Thanks

Graps.  You must be shooting one of the heavier K-Mags ever made.  Don't know what the marked draw weight is, but I suggest you discuss it with the fellas at Surewood when you place your order.
