Padded loops / limb savers for quieting a recurve?
« on: June 29, 2016, 05:31:00 AM »
Anyone made their own padded loops with yarn or another material to help quiet their recurves?

What about limb savers?

Bow I'm speaking of is a bear grizzly
Thanks

I do and look in the "How To" forum and there are several "How To's" on how it's done if you are thinking of doing it yourself.I just use yarn to wrap the loops or the "Y" section and wrap down just where the string would touch the limbs and stop there.Just use Extra caution when stringing your bow and make certain string doesn't roll off one side of limb when stringing. Some recurves are quiet enough that they don't need it. I don't go back up just one time down and done.

Personally I don't like adding anything that might hinder the string going in the string grooves. My noise issues in recurves went away after I started making my own strings and taking the time to find the right brace height.

Do you have a picture of these in place on a bow limb?

Yes, have found wrapping with yarn all areas of string in contact with limb tip (including loop) greatly diminishes noise.  No issue with loop fit doing so.

I use Bow Hush.  I have it on two of my 58" Grizzly's.  It works great.  Bow hush seems to hold up better in the elements to the other wool yarn I tried. The other yarn quiets it but is not as weather resistant in my opinion.

I use Mole Skin in my string grooves.  Mole Foam is noticeably thicker, and I am sure that would work.  Adhesive backed, easily cut into appropriate width strips from the large square they come in.  In the foot care section of any drug store or Wal-Mart.  Very inexpensive, easily replacable.

Two Tracks wool string silencers. Best thing I have found and easy to install/remove. That, with proper weight arrow and tune and you'll likely no need any string wrap or padding in the grooves.

I have done the yarn wrap on the parts where the string touches the limb .
I feel that mole skin works better if you stick it over the string groves and it doesn't pick up weed seeds as bad .

You also asked about limb savers...they do not do a lot but they do take some vibration out...they sure seem worth the cost to me on some bows that are tricky to get quiet

you can use any yarn Walmart kmart bow hush it all works.

if you want to you can try the soft side of Velcro on your limbs (at the places the string touches) and if that doesn't help then yarn wrap the strings
