I just received my dryad epic 17" riser and some centaur long limbs.  I am wondering what length bow this should make?  

I measured it from end to end and it measures 59" but I thought it would be a 62" bow...???

Also, what length string?  I figured a 59" since it was a "62"" bow.  But a 59" string wouldn't even let the bow brace where a 57" gave it a crazy brace height.  I'm guessing its around 58, but just wondering if there is a way to know for sure what the exact string length is without making multiple strings.


Side question: should the split of the ilf limbs slide onto the bushing that is around the adjustment screw?

You measure bow length by measuring along the limbs, following their curvature, from nock to nock, not in a straight line from nock to nock.  If it's built to AMO specs, the string length would be 3 inches less than that length

If I understand your last question correctly, yes, the slot does slip around the bushing on the adjustment bolt.

Longs on a 17" riser make a 62"bow that would be about 59" when strung so you are good to go.

If that's the case, why does this bow measure 59"? But that is in a straight line. Not following the curvature of the limbs

62"is unstrung "AMO" length If its measuring 59" unstrung I'm guessing you have medium limbs and a 60" bow, misread your original post thought it was measuring 59"strung

One loop and a timber hitch.  Orion nailed it on the length, but based on the information you gave it's not going to work out like that.

Technically, the AMO bow length is 3" longer than the "string master" (steel cable) that puts it at proper brace.

What length are the limbs from bottom of the yoke to the string grove?

I've never even seen a Centaur ILF longbow limb so I can't speak for them.  But it sounds like you have medium limbs.  If so, It would be a 60" bow with a max draw of about 27".

Is that to be measure on the belly of the limb or does that matter?

Daniel,
Contact Dryad and tell them what limbs you have on it.  I am sure they will give you string length needed.
They will probably also recommend a brace height.

UPDATE:

I was wrong on string length.. it takes a 57" string.  Something is DEFINITELY miss marked on either the riser or the limbs.  

The first two numbers of the serial number on the riser are 17, the riser measures 17 from end to end and the limbs are definitely labeled as "longs".  Which should make a 62" bow, but they will not even get close to my 29" draw.  

I am confused.

I'd contact Centaur to ask actual length of their "long" limbs to see if they might be mislabeled.

xl limbs would make a 62 inch bow.
long would make a 60 inch.

Get ahold of Centaur and check the length of the limbs.  If it's a 57" string it's a 60 inch bow and not near long enough for a 29" draw.

Recommended max draw on the 60 is 27".

BTW. 17" riser and medium limbs is 60", longs - 62" and XL 64".

I would recommend XL limbs for your draw in a longbow.

now that I think about it, wingnut is correct. I had a 17 inch riser with xl limbs and it made a 64 inch LB.

I put this together a while back. Some folks find it helpful.
