Would Like to Reseach some of the old time arhers
« on: July 22, 2016, 10:03:00 PM »
I would like to do some personal research on some of the older archers like Bear and Hill to start with but don't have a clue where to start. Any ideas.

Have tried a search in my local library system and on an internet book search system for Howard Hill but came up empty and have no idea if anyone has written extensively about him, his equipment and methods of shooting.

Would be interested in magazine articles also especially if they are older ones. I saw an article recently (last 3 months) in an archery magazine and saved it.

Will be doing a search regarding Bear this weekend but would prefer to start with Hill.

Make sure you include Ben Pearson, Larry Whiffen Sr., Saxon Pope, Art Young and Maurice Thompson.

Hill and Bear did a lot, but they were not alone.

LEGENDS IN ARCHERY
by Peter O. Stecher
This would be a great way to get an overview. Peter covers  16 archers and several others all who are significant in the growth of the sport.

Bear's 4 DVD set gives a lot of info including an extensive interview with him on his life.  It's a available online at many dealers and well worth the small amount charged.  His book, Fred Bear's Field Notes is a good read.

Legendary Hunts of Ben Pearson gives a history of this key figure in the sport and is a dirt cheap DVD.

I could go on, but any internet search will provide all kinds of results.  Have fun!
