Hey everyone I'm pretty new to bowhunting and I am shooting an old bear #55 recurve. I'm looking into what broadheads to get and I really like the looks of the magnus stinger heads.  However I can't decide on whether to get the four blade or the simple two blade.  The two blade seems more durable and reliable in a simplistic manner and that it would offer better penetration and flight.  But bleeders would obviously cause more damage, probably without diminishing penetration or accuracy very much, so is it foolish to avoid them?

I like 2 blade heads. I shoot Zwickey eskimos and the no mercies.

I just put some Zwickey 2 blade on some woodies I have and they fly pretty good, seem to take a slight dip though at 15 yds, I have some Wensel Woodsmans on some GT 3555 and they fly really well but am thinking with #55 youd need the 5565's..I havent tried the Zwickeys on the carbons yet

The best advice that you can get, is go to the top of the Pow Wow page and read Dr. Ashby's report.

I guess if we run into the bear that is making these tracks, we oughta just get off the trail.......He seems to like it!

I agree with Tim, But I also like my Magnus 160grn Snuffers 3-Blade

Tim is right read the Ashby reports. Oh yea, and you'll never catch me with any broadhead with more than two blades in my quiver!

The bleeders on the 4 blade are small enough not to cause much concern about penetration, especially if you are hunting deer at 55 pounds.  But you are also right, the 2 blade is a little stronger and will still out penetrate the 4.

Both fly like a dream you'll never tell the difference between them.

Good hunting whatever you choose.

If you are hunting deer, either the woodsman or snuffer would be my pick. Both leave great blood trails and penetrate both sides on deer sized game.

that Ashby report is great, I always thought there needed to be empirical study of penetration as a result of either momentum or KE.  Very useful, I think I will being going with a two blade.

At 55# of draw weight, the variables impacting performance for your set-up are different than for mine.  My typical poundage is 45-47#, with occasionally lighter poundage when my shoulder impingement is particularly annoying.
That said, a super sharp Grizzly El Grande 190 with long inserts is my hands-down favorite BH on my carbons.  However, my second choice is the Muzzy Phantom with bleeders at 220 grains.  Both of these broadheads have performed amazingly well and do serious damage.
If I was required to select one BH and only one for all of my hunting applications...the Grizz would win.  These BH's, though difficult to sharpen, are simply the best I have ever used.

If you are hunting only deer down south, I believe just about any well established broadhead will work fine.  Try them out (shoot them to see how they fly) sharpen em up pretty good, and go hunting.   If you plan to go after larger game...elk maybe.  then start asking around.

I have had nothing but grief from WW's, 10 to 15 yard shots, razor sharp, 54# bow. I love the way these sharpen and fly but 3 bad results is enough. I have gotten very poor penetration 3 times in a row. I know if you slip one between the ribs you will no doubt get good penetration but I seem not to have that good fortune. I had a two blade go out the other side of an elk so it is no secret what I am going back to. The bad results were on med. sized whitetail.
