Anyone here NOT own a Take Down??

For the first time in over 25 years I find myself without a take down bow. I travel at times to hunt, sometimes flying. A TD has been very convenient to pack. I have yet to travle by air with a one piece. For those of you who fly with a 1 Pc, what case do you use, do you worry about it getting "lost"??   I've always been able to fit my case along with arrows in my duffle bag with my clothes.

Sean I hunted on Kodiak in 2004 and used a homemade tube for my longbow. I used schedule 40 pvc with one end glued on and the other with a threaded end it was kind of heavy but I did not have to worry about it getting damaged but getting "lost" concerned me the most, I made sure that the threaded end could not be unscrewed by hand. I just used that tube a couple of weeks ago when the family and I drove to Denton Hill, no room in the front of the truck for a longbow.

That's a great idea, but I'd have to go with a larger diameter for my recurve.

I've owned one, don't have one now. Now I don't fly with a bow either.

Sean, Far North Archery makes dandy bow cases for one piece recurves.  A friend took his one piece recurve from Rochester, NY to Wyoming last year.  Told me that he's sold.

Kinda in the same boat here Sean. I broke down and bought a bow case for my one piece recurve. They are spendy but I figure the price of the bow warrants the protection. Plus I can pull the quiver off, slip it in the case and throw it in the back of the pickup and not worry about shutting a limb tip in the door. :-)

I only travel by car, so a hard case is not a big deal.

I've had several but down to one now and seldom take it apart.  I guess the point in keeping it is if I want to change draw weight I can just get limbs.

Every hunt I've been on that I flew I needed two bags and a carry-on.  I always had a TD bow in one of the checked bags.  With baggage fees these days that third bag generally costs over a $100.  I just don't think it's practical anymore to fly with a one pc.  If I really wanted to do a hunt with a one pc bow I'd consider shipping it up early through the mail or such before I flew with it.  Plus flying with a TD recurve or longbow tucked away in a duffle doesn't draw any attention from baggage handlers that might be anti-hunters and could "accidently" send your one pc bow on a different flight

I have 3 or 4 TD's. I would be reluctant to fly with a one piece. The airline might charge extra for odd shaped luggage. Flying into certain cities I would be afraid it would get stolen, Chicago comes to mind. But then agian I am some what a pessimistic type. If I drive like next month (PA.) I am taking my LB.

I totally agree. I didn't realize that I left myself with just a 1 pc.   When I flew with my TDs, I could put two in a soft case stuffed in the middle of my duffle bag. My arrow box fit in there also!!  That might give me an excuse to buy another bow!!!

Personally, I don't have a need for a take-down bow.
I have a truck and I don't fly.

I have one - a 1965 Bob Lee Presentation II.  The first take-down recurve.

 

Akmost as nice as a one-piece.  I don't think the concept will catch on with one-piece bows still readily available.  ;-)

I've used an skb rifle case for my one piece recurve. It's a short bow however, 54" Wild Horse Creek Mariah.
This year I have t/d bow for travel(a Bear Minuteman).
I hate paying those crazy bag fees the airlines charge. I'm checking one bag this fall with bow, arrows, clothes,etc.

I fly with my Hill Style Longbows every year.  Just get a rugged tube and check it in as oversized.

I shipped my longbow once with schedule 40 PVC and they managed to crush it. It apparently doe snot fit on the truck racks so it stays on the floor and can get crushed by the door etc.   Now I fly with it instead of trusting the shippers.

The only time I have flown with one pc bows, I made a case out of 6" PVC and checked it. They did not charge me for oversized. I think it fit in the sporting equipment category or something like that. That was in 2008, so they may be more stringent now? I know people fly with long skis all the time, and I don't think they get charged for oversized either.
