Hunting and Sharing

This has everything to do with bow hunting.

As many of you know I really enjoy hunting goats in the mountains here on the Islands. They are my primary source of protein throughout the year with an occasional pig. I have developed a decent ability to cook goat meat in various recipes. (or so I thought)

Well yesterday an older Filipino lady moved in on my floor, (i live in an apartment) and as she was greeting the neighbors, (which is something seemingly lost on people these days) she brought me a nice long squash as a gift. We got to talking and she noticed a bow on the wall. Her husband used to hunt, but cannot anymore due to knee injuries. Anyway long story short I gave them a couple hind quarters and back straps of goat from my freezer.

Fast forward to today: I answer my door and here is the same woman with her husband and the MOST DELICIOUS goat dishes I have ever tasted!! not only that but they used the bones to make broth for PHO!  We had a great meal full of hunting stories and laughs. Now I got a new range buddy!

A key fact that Anti-hunters overlook is the way that hunting brings people of different cultures and backgrounds together. How game meat nourishes body mind and soul and often creates endearing friendships that may never have occurred otherwise.  I was taught by my father that when you can you share in your bounty. Thats the way it oughtta be.

Very nice .

A retired school teacher friend of mine used to ask if we could have venison whenever we would invite him to dinner .
During dinner and after , he would be telling stories about his travels around the world .
Was just fascinating to listen to him .
But his favorite meal was venison . Glad I always had some for him .
