Bill, I tried several different test pieces with different things and found the best thing for it was a kiwi brand scuff cover for brown shoes. Not polish, it says scuff cover brown brun on the bottle.
The regular brown polish in a can made it a little to red for me and it had a higher sheen.
The scuff cover provided an uneven finish with sort of a worn patina look.
Best of luck with yours!

Excellent job.......can't wait to see the bow you make to go with it.
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki
